    3. I have quite a few New England ancestors and have subscribed to NEGHS but have found little useful information. Perhaps it is "user error". I am open to suggestions, tips etc. I really expected more and have been disappointed. thanks, Patti Researching: BARTRAM, CRAW, DUNTON/DONTON, FLOOD, FRANK(S)HARDIE/HARDY, LADD, LILLY, MOREHOUSE, PERKINS RANSOM, RHODES, SABIN

    3. All this library talk is making me envious. I have a question and hope to get some advice. My ancestor, Mary DUNTON/DONTON/DUTTON b 1793 Roxbury, MA. I know that Roxbury is part of Boston and so far have not found one piece of proof to support the family history. Here is the hard part, I live in Oregon and won't be coming east anytime soon. As you think a about "Genealogy Clubs", libraries etc., perhaps you can suggest a good place to check next. I already subscribe to NEGHS ( not much success there), Ancestry, Genealogy Bank, have access to Heritage Quest etc. & I have been doing genealogy for a long time. Suggestions?? thanks, Patti ----- Original Message ----- From: Ms Betty Fredericks To: MA List Sent: Thursday, March 21, 2013 7:09 AM Subject: [Norton AntiSpam][GENMASSACHUSETTS] Libraries in MA for genealogy Hello, I'd like to suggest that you check the libraries within a half-hour drive of Boston and Cambridge which .host. a Genealogy Club. The ones I can think of at this moment is the library in Lynnfield where meetings of the ESOG (Essex Soc. of Genealogy) are held. And, coming up my way there is the Pollard Library in Lowell where some of the meetings for the GLGC (Greater Lowell Gen. Club) are held. And at the Chelmsford Library - the Chelmsford Genealogy Club. * Oh, just remembered the .great. "Special Collections Room" on a top floor of the Haverhill Public Libnrary. Because of budget cuts for several years, I think it is only open on certain days and times. Almost every library between Boston and Lowell, etc., has a "history room." Some have more books; some have less. I found an important, genealogy book I needed at the library in Lexington. And the "history room" at the library in Billerica now has a computer in the room. Betty (near Lowell, MA) * For almost 10 yrs., I have wondered why there was no genealogy club in Billerica. And, I have wanted to start one up -- but -- I wanted to start up a joint Billerica and Chelmsford Group - but - where meetings were held in the morning. There are many .seniors. (us) who do not go out in the evenings very often. I would much prefer a meeting once a month at 10 am, possibly held at the Senior Centers - jointly. "Some day" when I have extra energy and get motivated, I will try this. Billerica and Chelmsford were both incorporated in 1655, and at the time their plantations were very large. Both towns had several towns annexed off of them. And, Billerica was all .forest. and hills, and rocks, and not so good for farming. But, Chelmsford had both the large Merrimack River and the Concord River and lots of good farming land. So many of the early settlers in Billerica moved over to Chelmsford. That 1940 census for Attleboro has a lot of information but not what we are looking for. I very seldom give up and will keep trying. It did confirm what I've been told that his dad's name was Samuel Fred Trainer and mother Catharine Campbell. Still coming up empty in all censuses linked to those parents. I love the challenge! I have also been viewing all of the census images by location in case the name was mispelled in the database. I found that to be the case on the 1940 Census. He had been married by then to my grandmother; living in PA with 2 of the 5 children. The census taker listed "Trainer" plainly but in the database it's "Frances". I'm hoping that is the case and that eventually, I'll find them. :-) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My great grandmother was a Traynor. Her and her family were all from the Boston, Somerville, Cambridge area, in the 1800's to early 1900's. I have seen the name spelled Trainor, Trainer, Treanor, Treaner and of course the one they seemed to settle on Traynor. That line is something I'm still researching. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Mrs. P. MOURA in Cambridge had brother, Antonio ROSA in Cambridge
    2. Ms Betty Fredericks
    3. Hello,   This month I have connected with a descendant of a son of Mrs. Filomena "Phoebe" (ROSA) MOURA who had moved out to Oakland, CA, during the 1920's.    The older son, "Manny" and "Cora" MOURA moved to Brooklyn, NY, and I can't find a descendant of them.      As I've mentioned before, as a recent widow, she and her 3 daughters, left the Azores and migrated to MA between 1905 and 1910.    They became Mrs. "Elsie" MOURA, Mrs. Rose PERRY, and Mrs. Carolina MEDEIROS.    We see some of their descendants at family Wakes, including a recent one.   From 2 sources, I have found the names of the parents of Filomena, b1870's in Azores, and they were Laurindo / Lucio da ROSA and Clara Emilia  (EMILIA??) from Pico and Faial.    I don't know about their entire family, but I just found out this week that, when "Phoebe" arrived in MA she stated she was coming to stay with her brother,  Antonio da ROSA,  in Cambridge.    The family had no knowledge of this.    He had been b1868, and married Maria SILVA in  Cambridge in 1889.    I think I found the couple, when older, in the 1940 census in Somerville, MA, and 2 adult sons were living with them.     I haven't had time to find out how many children they had.     For those interested in ancestors from the Azores,  I posted a query on the Portuguese-Genealogy Group  at  http://www.google.com/   a little over a week ago, and a helpful researcher did look-ups and found lots of tidbits of information for me.     He is the one who told me that Mrs. MOURA had a brother in MA.   And, he said that probably her husband died ~1905, Francisco "Frank" MOURA,  and that is why she and her 3 daughters left the Azores to come to MA.     "Frank" was from Sao Miguel, and he had married Filomena in 1888.    I had only found out about 5 children born from 1891 to 1898, but the researcher thinks they had at least one children before that.    Most of the information is in Portuguese, so I'm going to have trouble typing up a summary of it. (There is also an Azores-Group.   There are many genealogy Groups at  http://www.google.com/    and probably some at  http://www.yahoo.com/ )   I've been posting about the above couples on the Lists for 7 or 8 yrs., so there is information on them in the archives of the Lists.    ...   And, I don't remember whether I recently posted that a descendant of a MEDEIROS family in Somerville and New Bedford would .love.  to find his relatives.    We found out he is descended from Philip and Mary (MIRANDA) MEDEIROS who had 8 children.   THINK SPRING !          8" of snow here,  12"  nearby, and I heard an official Blizzard in northern Canada.   Betty          (near Lowell, MA)   (on Lists and Boards for 11 yrs.;  now an Admin for 10 Lists and 5 Boards)
