    3. I am looking for information on my third grandmother Lucy Ann Kelley.  We know that she married George William Elliot 15 Nov 1844  in Boston, Massachusetts. She died 10 Dec 1917 in East Boston, Massachusetts. I would like to find her birthdate abt 1828 in Boston, Mass? I found the following on the 1880 Federal Census; !CENSUS: 1880 UNITED STATES CENSUS - LUCY A. ELLIOTT IS LISTED AS LIVING WITH HER SON-IN-LAW JAMES FITCH AND HER DAUGHTER GEORGIANNA. SHE WAS A FEMALE, WIDOW, WHITE, AGE 52 AND WAS BORN IN MASSACHUSETTS!!!! NEED MORE RESEARCH TO DETERMINE WHERE SHE IS FROM AND WHAT HER TRUE PARENTAGE IS. HER FATHER IS LISTED AS BEING BORN IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND HER MOTHER WAS BORN IN MASSACHUSETTS ACCORDING TO THIS SAME CENSUS. Also her children were named Lucy Jane Elliott, Georgianna Sylina Elliott (my second ggmother), Geroge William Elliott Jr., and Alvah Jackson Elliott. I have also found an Alvah Kelley in the Boston /Chelsea area  Who according to the Federal and State censuses was born in New Hampshire and had a wife maned Lucy. !SOURCE: UNITED STATES FEDERAL CENSUS-1850- PG. 230- WARD 4- KNOWN AS EAST BOSTON,SUFFOLK, MASSACHUSETTS. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Erene LeBLANC and Josephine SAUTERRE 1880-1900
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I'm still trying to gather information on the 13 LEWIS siblings growing up in Stoneham, MA, from 1880 to 1920. One of the sons was Arthur H. LEWIS. I have him marrying in Nov. 1919 in Woburn, MA, to Philomene LeBLANC. (Her nickname was Phoebe.) The marriage record shows her parents as: Erene LeBLANC and Josephine SAUTERRE. I just checked census records, and I'm not finding this couple in MA or NH. What I did find was that many LeBLANC couples came down from Canada to work in the mills, both in NH and MA, probably from 1880 to 1900. (I'm not finding SAUTERRE at all. Nor SAUTERNE.) Arthur LEWIS was born in MA in 1892, so his wife, "Phoebe" was probably born in the 1890's. I was just wondering if anyone knows about Mr. Erene LeBLANC, probably born in the mid-1800's. I'm curious whether Phoebe was from Canada and came down alone, or came down with her family. Betty (near Lowell, MA) Remember to check the archives of all the Lists and Boards for your surnames and place-names. www.rootsweb.com FYI: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/usa/misc/misc.html#NEW-ENGLAND-MEMORIES

Do you have the family in the 1900 / 1910 censuses? (If not, then you might want to post to the MA-census-lookup list.) I looked at "Daly" births in Boston during the time of his first marriage, but there are 249 options! Maybe someone with access to the censuses can locate the family for you, then we can work backwards from there, once we have some additional names to check?! 3. Hi Steve   Thanks for the info....yes it seems that this record has been upheld as evidence by researchers that this is John Young born about 1748/49 s/o John Young and Susannah Getchell and that he married Elizabeth Bailey.   However I have found information by one particular researcher and she writes that the file held by DAR has copies of numerous letters basically saying......... Yonnaca Webb received a pension, but the Pension Office later revoked it based on a letter to the War Office from the local Postmaster alleging that John YOUNG had already been married to a woman still living at the time he "took Yonnaca to live with him." No evidence of the alleged first wife Elizabeth was found, but rumors in the town were that the first wife claimed property when John YOUNG had died. The file contains a handwritten letter from John to his wife Yonnaca while he was in service, a copy of a handwritten page where John wrote the birth dates and names of all his children (which the family was required to cut out and submit as proof to the courts), letters between the gossiping postmaster and the pension office and between pension office and Yonnaca YOUNG's attorney. Also, the Rix Manuscripts which have quite a bit of info on Lisbon NH including genealogies of various families including the Young family also makes reference to Elizabeth Bayley as a wife of John Young. It lists the children of John Young as follows however it does not identify the maternal status.....   I) Abner born Jan 21, 1769 II) Polly born Nov 6, 1771 m Simeon Clement & went to Canada III) Benjamin born Feb 28, 1773 IV) Hannah born Jun 17, 1774 m Nov 5, 1802 Theodore Ela and had 2 children V) Richard born Dec 25, 1776 – died same day VI) Guy born Oct 4, 1779 VII) John born Jun 17, 1781 died before 1791 (twin) VIII) Jehu born Jun 17, 1781 (twin) married Ruby Richardson ~ went to Jay VT IX) Hiram born Jul 25, 1783 X) Nathaniel born Sep 6, 1785 XI) Sophia born Aug 7, 1787 XII) Murray born Aug 14, 1789 XIII) John 2^nd born May 11, 1791 XIV) Diana born Sep 15 1793 (twin)............. died a young lady XV) Damon born Sep 15, 1793 (twin).......... Methodist minister – pastorates in Rhode Island, Pembroke, Rochester and Landaff, NH and Cambridge, Mass. Returned to Lisbon in 1825. Died Lisbon Mar 12, 1826 – never married XVI) Sylvia born Jan 9, 1797 m. Rev. 3. Hi Bob, I can only do a quick look this morning, but there is a large DALY family in Boston in 1880: DALY, GEORGE F (1880 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , SUFFOLK, BOSTON; 12-WD Age: 14, Race: WHITE, Born: MA Series: T9 Roll: 556 Page: 236 This was the family of Richard and Mary DALY and their 8 children. He was a printer. He and his wife both born in Ireland. There was another family in Boston; Michael and Cathie DALY, about the same age, and 6 children. OH, I was just going to say that they both had a son, George, 14, but on closer look this George is a nephew. Maybe he showed up with both families. OH, it says he was born in TN. ??? The 1900 census has this: DALY, GEORGE P (1900 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , SUFFOLK, 17-WD BOSTON Age: 30, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: TN Series: T623 Roll: 684 Page: 242 He with wife and 2 small children. Also in 1900 there is a George DALY living in the Tewksbury State Hospital as an inmate. (And 2 other DALY's.) But, he was born in NY. In 1910 there is this: DALY, GEORGE T (1910 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , SUFFOLK, 12-WD BOSTON Age: 42, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: MA Series: T624 Roll: 618 Page: 38 with a wife, Elizabeth, and a son, George E., 15. They seem to be running a large "rooming house" - many lodgers. They are in "Boston City." There are 3 other George DALY's in Suffolk Co. this year; one born in Maine. George and Elizabeth are still running the "rooming house" in 1920, and it is on Mass. Ave. Seems to be many "rooming houses" in that area. 3. Having to evacuate almost every summer for hurricanes and/or flash floods (in Louisiana) I've learned to keep a lot of stuff on computer instead of paper. Once a week, I back up ALL GENEALOGY FILES to a flash drive... If I have an evening where I do a super amount of data entry and editing, I back up at that point, too. For those who don't know what a flash drive is, I call it a "stick drive" --- a flat object, 2 to 3" long and 3/4" wide, that plugs in to a USB port and holds a lot more than any set of disks... also tinier and easier to pack. They are re-usable (unlike CD's), and relatively inexpensive. They come in a variety of sizes. I buy the ones that come on a string that hangs around your neck. I have two of them... one I use for genealogy only (4 Gb), and a second one for everything else, like inventories, insurance info, contact lists, account numbers, etc. (2 Gb)... I pick different colors so I can tell them apart. For genealogy files, I usually look for green -- G = Genealogy. All digital documents, all photos to put with genealogy data, all notes are in computer files and when I head out, its one of the first things I grab. I keep them with my keys, glasses and purse, with the laptop so I don't hunt for them. Next to the laptop is a small plastic box with original CD's for Windows, Office, and Family TreeMaker .. just in case. Even if I decide to bring my laptop, I know how easily that can be damaged in the moving around. The flash drives and CD's give me peace of mind! The genealogy (4 Gb) drive right now has some 500 pages of notes (word proc), my FamilyTreemaker files for 4 different major branches, about 450 digital documents (birth, marr, burial), dozens of census records, and about 100 old photos... and there's still space. Eventually I'll replace it with an 8 Gb, when the prices on those come down a little more. When a friend's system crashed during evacuation last summer, and she needed to re-install MS Office, she had to buy it all over again, even tho the chain store she originally purchased the computer from had the record of her purchase on its computers .... expensive lesson! Now I bring my originals with me just in case. When there's no time to look for them, they're right there with the laptop, in plain view. In Massachusetts one seldom finds the names of parents in a marriage record until the advent of statewide vital records reporting in the 1840s. Even then, compliance varied. As an example, Eliza G. (Pike) Bean died in 1847, and George J. Bean remarried later that year. His 1847 marriage record does not have parents' names, even though some Lowell records of the previous few years do have them. Do you know when and where George died? The 1847 death record of his first wife, for example, names her parents. Dale H. Cook, Member, NEHGS and MA Society of Mayflower Descendants; Plymouth Co.
