I do not find any Reed/Read heads of household in Montague in the 1800 and 1810 Federal censuses. In short, in the records most likely to contain him, he is not to be found in the town of Montague. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Ships Arriving 1630 to 1650 (KIDDER, MOORE)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, One of the patriarchs on my family-tree is James KIDDER (1626-1676) who reportedly arrived in 1649. The 1941 "KIDDER book" states that no one known found information on which ship he came on: FYI: James Kidder's probable birthplace, East Grinstead, is a small town about thirty miles from London, and in the near vicinity of Maresfield, ancient seat of the Kidder family. Nothing is known of his early years nor of the reasons which prompted his leaving the home of his fathers to settle in New England where he is believed to have arrived about 1649, shortly before his marriage to Anna Moore. It is assumed that he came unaccompanied by others of his family and it is a relief to be able to record that nothing so far discovered suggests his having ........ I have researched the KIDDER's for 15+ years, and George KIDDER in FL has probably researched for 20+ years. His updated version of the book might be published next year. But, as far as I know, no one has ever found out which ship James came on. And, the ships arriving in the 1640's are hardly ever discussed on the Lists. Does anyone have information on them? Are they mentioned on the CD's now being published? The other patriarch on my family-tree is Francis MOORE (Sr.), and not enough information is known about him, either. He is the father of the Anna MOORE mentioned above. * I just reviewed my old postings on the MA List and reminded myself that no one knows which ship he arrived on, either. It was either in 1638 or probably 1639, as he became a freeman in Cambridge in 1639. (He would have arrived 10 years before his son-in-law, James, did.) Betty (near Lowell, MA) * If you search the archives of the MA List for my postings in 2004, you will find information on Francis MOORE and other MOORE's arriving around the same time: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/genmassachusetts/2004-03/1079611143 It looks like I haven't brought "Francis MOORE" up for discussion for a few years.

Author: ballproject Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.unknown/6883/mb.ashx Message Board Post: First, the Project website http://newenglandballproject.com was refreshed today and I thought I would give an update on the Project progress for the last two years: Date......# People....# Ball...# Immigrants/Stray Branches 20 Dec 2008..51, 227...10,322.......63 / 45 15 Dec 2007..43,802...7,003.......45 / 38 15 Dec 2006..28,785...4,960......8 / 5 Second, I spent a lot of time in 2008 cleaning up files, rather than adding new people, and the website finally went on-line 30 September 2008. I am guessing that the number of people in the Project now represents under half of what I expect to have on-line over the next 5 years. Third, my nubby fingers can't do all of the data entry. A significant part of what is now on-line has come from other people's GEDCOMs (many thanks). As well, I have received emails with corrections and small additions, as well as marvelous photos. If you find someone from your lineage on the Project website, it is almost certain that you have SOME data that isn't in the Project yet and I would really appreciate hearing about it, especially corrections. Fourth, there are now 164 photos in the photo gallery of the Project website including a US president, a British Prime Minister, a movie/TV star or two, and a few obscure authors. I would like to have 10 times that many photos, if people will send them to me; JPEG files in the 300k to 1meg size let me do some adjustments, if needed. I do give credit to the source of data and photos, as can be seen on the website. Best wishes for the season, David G. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] YESTERDAYS UPDATED
    2. mike spencer
    3. Hi list, for those with English ancestry the Yesterdays site has been updated with hundreds more names of persons found in official documents in Derbyshire but with connections throughout the British Isles. Many newer documents refer to Law and Order and few rare cases are listed. Heage Law and Order. a mother abandons her baby and watches until someine finds the child. Chesterfield Law and Order. Was Ellen CROFT naive, did she really think a pact over silver would mean the father of her child would marry her. Melbourne Miscellany Cornelius BRENTNALL gets no response because no one can be bothered to read the letter. also at Melbourne Miscellany. An EARP goes to America. Plus many other records, like, Board of Guardians, the body that decided who came to the workhouse, read their deliberations. Although these documents relate to Derbyshire they are standard documents which should be found in County Record Offices throughout England. mike -- http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm

    1. Re: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] NEIL, John, architect, and wife, Mabel
    2. Kim Gawlak
    3. Hi Emily, The NEHGS has a marriage record (vol. 549, pg 52) for John NEIL -- in Boston, on 16 March 1904. It says he married Mabel PARSON (and it notes, under her name, "Adopted" - I will send you the image, off-list, as I've never seen this before). It says it was the first marriage for both!? She was 26 and a bookkeeper; he was 31 and a painter. He resided at 662 Tremont St., she at 81 Appleton St. He was born in England to John NEIL and Helen BLACK; she was born in No. Ashford, CT -- and that her parents were Edward DRAPER and Addie BABBITT. They had a child, John Henry NEIL on 10 May 1909 (Vol 585, pg 109), in Boston, at 54 Montgomery St. When the birth was registered, the parents were listed as John NEIL and Mabel DRAPER. Then, when I searched under Walter PARSONS, I found this (Vol 435, pg 492): Walter T. PARSONS (age 23, of Spencer, MA) married Mabel A. DRAPER (age 16, also of Spencer) on 23 Dec. 1893 in Worcester. He was a clerk born in Penn. (to Truman PARSONS and Laura DAVIS); she was born in Conn. (to Edward DRAPER and Abbie P. BABBITT). I hope this is helpful to you! 3. Hi Charles, Nice to see your name. I'm having trouble finding a Henry or Harry TOMPKINS in MA in 1900. There was one, but born in England. Oh, this might be the family: TOMPKINS, HENRY (1910 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 7-WD CAMBRIDGE Age: 43, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: IREL Series: T624 Roll: 597 Page: 43 He has a wife, Ester, and they had been married for 21 years, and had 8 children, 6 live, and they had 4 sons and then 2 daughters, including Harry, 18. I'm not finding this family in MA in 1920, and I can't check 1930. There are other Henry or Harry TOMPKINS in MA in 1900 to 1920, but most born in England. For instance, n 1910, I find this family, but the son, Henry, is 3. TOMPKINS, HARRY W (1910 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , NORFOLK, AVON Age: 36, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: ENGL Series: T624 Roll: 607 Page: 18 In 1920, there are Henry TOMPKINS in many other states; any possibility they moved? ** By the way, are you looking for the death of an adult (the one born 1891)? OOPS. I just noticed that Henry was born in MA. Let me look again. No, I'm not finding the correct Henry or Harry in 1920. Just a reminder that he would have been ~28, and there is probably a WW I "draft registration card" for him. Any chance he fought in the War ? A quick look shows an Edward Henry TOMPKINS in Middlesex Co., MA, in the records (I can't look at that record). Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. I research a Gilbert TOMPKINS but in 1700's Little Compton, RI, and Westport, MA. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jitsu@gru.net> To: <GENMASSACHUSETTS@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 18, 2008 11:29 AM Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Cambridge--TOMPKINS--death? > I'm looking for the death of a relative, Henry (Harry) TOMPKINS, born at > Cambridge, MA 1891. 2. Sue Richart
    3. Greetings, I checked and the image for vol 522 pg 413 is not on the server. As it doesn't appear to be a viable option for Bob's query, I'm just going to ask Sam Sturgis, one of the NEHGS webmasters, to digitize all the missing volume 522 images, so we can get them all on the server. Bob, I don't say this often, but I would recommend you subscribe to the NEHGS on-line databases. Don't get me wrong, I think joining the NEHGS ( www.newenglandancestors.org) is great, but if one only has a few queries in Massachusetts, it may not be necessary with listers like Kim helping out. In this case, you may actually save money and time. I can tell you that Sam Sturgis has been very busy digitizing images to filll in gaps on the database. He has also been pretty prompt about getting missing images to me to pass on to folks who have asked for them. Now, we are trying to do a more systemic approach to this, which is why I'll ask him to do all missing volume 522 pages instead of just the one. If you are having problems with images or entries, you and anyone else are welcome to email me, so I can determine the problem and get a solution if possible. There are about 20 entries now that I just can't figure where they actually are, because the error was from the original clerk and it doesn't seem to be a usual typing error. Please note I have satellite internet and had over foot of snow yesterday and last night with single digit temperatures. It is fairly easy for my dish to get blocked with snow and I'm not quite as apt to get out to clean it off if it looks to get blocked again fairly quickly. Depending on how the day goes I may or may not respond promptly. Then we get really cold followed by more snow on Sunday.
