Trying to find the birth of GLADYS BENOIT, daughter of Laura Houle and Willie Benoit in the Lawrence, MA area around 1923. My only clues are (1) a vague memory from my mother, now deceased, that her first cousin was about 4 or 5 years younger than her, (2) a 1930 census showing Gladys, age 7, living in Michigan with her mother's brother Emile... Her mother was deceased at that point... (3) Her parents and her siblings are living in Lawrence in the 1920 census. Any help appreciated. Greetings Listers, Just wanted to let you know that I'm leaving an entry as is, so that the webmaster can figure out how to query for the rest of them. We haven't succeeded at it yet and I'm only finding them accidentally as I check every entry on an index page. The entry is for Mary Angeline Hartman Birth Boston vol 83 pg 76. The year fields (1854) are not filled in, so any query containing a year will not turn up the entry. I do ask that if you spot any more of these, please let me know. This is the fourth or fifth I've found so far and guess there are probably more out there. I just have no way of finding them except as I check each entry on an index page. I can only go through about three index pages in a row, before my mind starts to check out of the process. As there are over 100,000 index pages, checking them all is just not going to happen. I wish you a wonderful New Year. Sue Richart NEHGS Volunteer repairing the 1841-1910 Massachusetts vital records database on www.newenglandancestors.org
Hoping for assistance with lookup at NEHGS for the following birth records, these have been found on the LDS website but I am not sure they are correct and would appreciate confirmation that they exist in the town records; Rodolphus REED born 1774 in Uxbridge,Worcester,Mass. to Josiah REED and Elizabeth. Abijah Reed born abt 1786 in Uxbridge, Worcester,Mass to Josiah REED and Elizabeth Thank you, Janice
I would like to hear from any descendants of, or anyone connected to, WILLIAM ROLAND MURRAY. He is listed in the 1910 Boston census as "Roland". He was born in Boston, 30 Sep 1900, to James Milledge and Amy B. (Hurlbert) Murray, and the 1910 census shows a younger brother, Donald, age 6. Amy, Roland and Donald are living in the home of James' widowed mother, Susan Murray. At the date of birth for Roland, the family were living at 321 Fuller, Boston. Richard Murray Picton, Ontario

Thanks for getting back....I have been told that much of the information on the Reed family listed on the LDS site is taken from the book The Reed Family of Europe and America by Jacob Whittmore Reed ~ unfortuantely many people, including me, have found this book has errors and often can not be relied on. It seems doubtful that Lucy Reed was born in Grafton VT, she did die there though. Appreciate your input and comments, are you related to the Burgess family? Hi again, A quick look at the archives of the YOUNG List finds a posting from almost 10 years ago. It offers the paragraph from Pope's "Pioneers of MA," showing a possible 4 YOUNG patriarchs. And I just saw that John YOUNG married Abigail HOWLAND from "the Mayflower." But, I'm still not seeing when and where John arrived. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/young/1999-07/0932145291 Betty (near Lowell, MA) (From my other postings, I believe Mrs. Clara Allen (DEXTER) YOUNG was the birth-mother of my grandmother, without the benefit of her husband. And, I think Abner YOUNG was descended from John YOUNG.) ("Somehow" the name, Daisy WATROUS, is involved in Clara's complicated lies.)
Hi again, I mentioned in my other posting this morning that my father's maternal ancestors included many 1600's patriarchs. See below. His paternal grandparents came over from England (through Nova Scotia) ~1870 to ~1880. IF a "true miracle" happened to me - genealogically speaking, my mother's maternal ancestors would include Rev. Gregory DEXTER, and an ALLEN patriarch. And, indirectly, a YOUNG patriarch. Unfortunately, her mother's birth-father will probably be forever unknown. This is an old posting of mine about ALLEN on the CT List. It offers an opinion that the 2 wives, named Mary ALLEN, of the father and son, Joseph DEXTER and Marvin DEXTER of CT, were descended from the patriarch, Samuel ALLEN, through 2 of his sons. And that Samuel came over in 1630 on the "Mary and John." http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GenConnecticut/2003-04/1049554331 A quick look on one YOUNG Message Board shows the possible patriarchs, John YOUNG and Abigail HOWLAND of 1600's Plymouth, MA. I don't see when he came over. (My "educated guess" is that Mrs. Clara Allen (DEXTER) YOUNG of Killingly, CT, was the birth-mother of my grandmother - without the benefit of her husband.) My mother's paternal ancestors included 2 families from Ireland who went to Canada in 1820's, and came down to MA from 1870's to 1880's, and a couple who left Scotland in 1850's and came to MA. (They were both "Scots/Irish" families.) Just an FYI for you. Betty (near Lowell, MA) My father's 1600's ancestors included (from memory): KIDDER, RICE, HUTCHINSON, CROSBY, WILKINS, MOORE, KNIGHT, and many other names from both Cambridge and "West Cambridge" (Arlington).
Hello, I know the "history of Cambridge" by Paige is on-line. I think that is the smaller book, and there is a larger book (2 vol. book?). But, I did another search at Google / Books and was reminded of the paper about the "250th anniversity of Cambridge." In this on-line book, there is a long poem about "Naming of Cambridge" and a quick look shows many surnames mentioned. (It starts on p. 86.) http://books.google.com/books?id=FgIlAAAAMAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=Cambridge+Massachusetts#PPA86,M1 It starts out mentioning "Tom Chisholm's Tavern." I was just reminded that the "Vital Records of Cambridge" go back to the 1600's. http://books.google.com/books?id=lc8UAAAAYAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=Cambridge+Massachusetts#PPA12,M1 Another book on-line shows that a John GIBSON was in Cambridge in 1630's: http://books.google.com/books?id=EihMAAAAMAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=Cambridge+Massachusetts&lr=#PPP17,M1 Oh, here is the other "history of Cambridge," this one by Eliot. I see that Ch. II is called, "Founders," and a quick look shows many surnames: http://books.google.com/books?id=siPZKHPQ1rcC&printsec=frontcover&dq=Cambridge+Massachusetts&lr=#PPA16,M1 Just an FYI for you. Betty (near Lowell, MA)
Hello, In the "MassMoments" daily e-mail this week there is a brief history of how Cambridge was created. A site was chosen for "Newtowne" in 1630. http://www.massmoments.org:80/moment.cfm?mid=372 It was also 1630 when 11 ships set sail for the MA Bay Colony. While looking at the FROST patriarchs within the past few days, I read that Edmund FROST settled in Cambridge. I'm finding different kinds of references, but it appears he arrived in 1635. I haven't looked at my ancestor, Francis MOORE, in a long while, but he also settled in Cambridge in 1630's, along with a couple other MOORE / MORE men. And it's possible he was a neighbor of Edmund FROST. ** I think it would be interesting to see a list of the men / families who were living in Cambridge in the 1630's. ** And, then a list of the men / families who settled in Cambridge in 1640's. My ancestor, James KIDDER, seemingly arrived ~1649, and shortly after married a daughter of Francis MOORE. My ancestor, Edmund RICE, seemingly arrived ~1638 but went directly to Sudbury. * Just curious who was living in Cambridge between 1630 and 1650. (I think one of the "histories of Cambridge" is on-line; I'll have to check on that.) Betty (near Lowell, MA) HAPPY NEW YEAR !! * As I mentioned yesterday, Edmund RICE, married a Thomasine FROST. But, if there was any connection between the patriarch, Edmund FROST, and Edmund RICE's wife, it would have been in the mid-1500's in Co. Suffolk, England. FYI: It would have been my father's grandparents: George "Sanford" KIDDER and his wife, Louise W. RICE, who would have had all of the above ancestors. Oh, almost forgot the patriarch, Bray WILKINS, but he first settled in Dorchester ~1634. Oh, that reminds me of the patriarch, George HUTCHINSON, who arrived in Charlestown ~1630. And patriarch, Simon CROSBY, arrived in Cambridge in 1635. I know about "the KIDDER book," and "the CROSBY book," and "the Bray WILKINS book" and just found out that "the FROST book" is on-line at Google/Books. As I've mentioned before, it is very disappointing that there is no "MOORE book" and no "HUTCHINSON book." (It is my "educated guess" that my ancestor, Samuel WILKINS, b~1775, was descended from Bray WILKINS.)
