To bring things full circle, here is the obituary from the June 17th, 1965 copy of the Melrose Free Press: Robert M. Henderson Service will be held today, June 17 for Robert. M Henderson, 54, of 155 Upham Street, at Beals Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford. Mr. Henderson was the co-publisher of the former Malden Press from 1954 to 1960, and a member of it's staff beginning in 1938. He was a member of the adverting staff of the Dedham Transcript Press and the Newton Graphic since August of 1960, joining the newspapers after the Malden Press was sold. Mr. Henderson entered the Winchester Hospital on June 9. He was stricken ill at his home following his return from work. He died early Monday. A native of Peabody, he starred at Marblehead High School in track, baseball and football. He went on to the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., where he was a football star. As a youth he attended grammar schools in Malden, making his home with an aunt following the death of his mother, Mrs. Jamesina (Montgomery) Henderson in 1919. At the age of 12, he went to Scotland with his father, Angus Grant Henderson, to his father's native town of Dunbeath. For two years he and his father lived there while he attended school in the same classroom his father had. They later returned to settle in Marblehead, but Henderson and his wife, the former Ruth Murray of Medford, had made several return trips to Scotland. Henderson's 1938-1960 career with the Malden Press was interrupted only by World War II service. Though troubled by arthritis, he volunteered for service with the Army, and while he was not granted permission for overseas service, he taught airplane mechanics in Texas and Mississippi for the Army Air Force. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetary, Medford, and the Rev. Alexander Henderson of Medford will officiate at the services and committal. Mr. Henderson, a member of the American Legion, is survived only by his wife. --------------------------- I am very curious about Rev. Alexander Henderson of Medford, I know Robert and Ruth had no children, but what are the chances this is a relative? Thanks againf or everyone's help. Dear List, I posted the new additions to our site today, 23 volumes of vital records from Massachusetts municipalities from the 18th-19th centuries. It turns out that most of these towns' vitals are covered by 2 volumes, not 1, and that we don't have all of the towns that are available. So the set of 70+ on our site is still quite incomplete. I apologize and will continue to add to the collection till I've put up every volume I can find. War soldier and died shortly after that war and reportedly is buried at Shirley, Mass. Widow Molly and some of her family removed to what is now Alna, ME shortly after Amos' death. I would like to know when and where Molly died and where she is buried,if anyone has any knowledge. thanks, Charles

Hello. I am trying to find out what cemeteries were in or around Boston in the late 1840's to early 1850's. I have a death record for my great grandfather but it does not say where he is buried, he died in 1851. He was Irish, and Cathloic and married, and lived in Boston. I don't think the family had money, they were only here for one year. Any information on this will be appreciated. Thank you. Best wishes. Bob **************Nothing says I love you like flowers! Hello Charles - Is your Robert McKown related to the Robert McKown who married Sarah Perkins in CT? (his father perhaps?) this Robert was a sea captain of Norwch, CT who went on a voyage and was never again heard of.. That's all the personal info I have for him. He and Sarah had 5 children. I found this little bit in NEHGR 14:115. Joan in California On Jan 15, 2009, at 7:34 AM, jitsu@gru.net wrote: My Scot-Irish ancestor Robert McKOWN(sp) was at Sheepscot (Maine) and was captured in a raid and taken to Canada ca 1719. His father was killed in the raid. He could speak French, so I'm going to assume he was up there for an extended period. The McKown family may have been on the 5th boat that went to Maine 1718. I next find him at Boston in 1747 when he marries Margaret NICKLES, daughter of Capt. Alexander Nickles, last commander at Fort Frederick. Robert and Alexander are mentioned online as traders and fishermen on the Passamaquoddy River. Robert McKown and brother John were both master mariners and merchants in the Boston area in nthe mid 1700s. Robert died at Bristol (Maine) 1777 and left a sizable estate. My question is--has there been anything written on this family in The Register or any other genealogical publications? thanks charles
Hello, I hopefully there are people on this List whose ancestors came from many countries (and continents). So, I'd like to ask a question. We see a lady in a restaurant on a regular basis, and my husband and I are trying to "guess" which country her family (ancestors) came from We finally asked her what her first name was and she said "Belin'ya" (Baleen'ya?) We don't know how she spells it My husband with ancestors associated with the Azores thinks that is an Azorean name. But, I think it is a name from India or Southeast Asia. Does anyone recognize that given name? One of the resources I use are "baby name books." You can pick them up very reasonably priced at 2nd-hand shops. I have one which is a "new age" type book offering names from "different family heritages." I checked the 3 books I have and that name isn't mentioned in them. This is just a question from our curiousity. THINK SPRING ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) Remember to check the archives of all the Lists and Boards for your surnames and place-names.
