Hi again, I forgot to check the WorldConnect Project. A researcher posted about the FAIRSERVICE family there. The researcher said: Elizabeth was born on 3/29/1746 in Boston, and was baptised at the New North Church. And it says on the page that her parents were: James FAIRSERVICE, born May 1692 in Lanarkshire, Scotland, and Isabella (unknown). And it says that James' parents were John FAIRSERVICE, born "before 1675" and Margaret MILLER. www.rootsweb.com WorldConnect Project Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: A reminder from the paragraph of the "LORING book," that David LORING probably died before 1778, and "Elizabeth survived him and married second Nov. 2, 1778 Thomas FENNEN (FENECY), whom she also outlived, and married March 22, 1798, Capt. Thomas Jenner CARNES. She made her will (residing at West Cambridge) Aug. 6, 1802, ........ and she died Aug. 16."
Hello, I've been thinking about my ancestors, David LORING and Elizabeth FAIRSERVICE this week. I've found their marriage mentioned several times this morning, in on-line records: Feb. 2, 176(4), by Rev. BYLES in Boston, MA. There is very limited information on-line on the FAIRSERVICE name. In regards to the 1700's in New England, there might have been a family in "Maine" and one in MA, and possibly a couple of families in the Province of Quebec. One record on-line has Elizabeth being born in 1750 in Boston, MA. But, if she married in 1764, she would have only been 13 or 14. A better birth year would be 1740. I checked census records and find: FAIRSERVICE, ROBT (1790 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , SUFFOLK, BOSTON Series: M637 Roll: 4 Page: 52 FAIRSERVICE, JOHN (1790 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , SUFFOLK, BOSTON Series: M637 Roll: 4 Page: 53 FAIRSERVICE, JOHN (1790 U.S. Census) MAINE , LINCOLN, POWNALBOROUGH Series: M637 Roll: 2 Page: 254 FAIRSERVICE, THOMAS (1790 U.S. Census) MAINE , LINCOLN, POWNALBOROUGH Series: M637 Roll: 2 Page: 254 So there were people in New England in 1700's. By 1880 there were only 15 people with the name in the US. And other sites say that some of the families came from Ireland and Scotland. But, the 1881 England and Canada census pages show more people with the name at that time - in those places. It is strange that several people have posted information on the David LORING / Elizabeth FAIRSERVICE marriage and family. But, none I find mention Elizabeth's parents and birth, etc. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (One record on-line mentioned a daughter, Sarah Hutchinson LORING married in 1793 in Boston to David BASS. One of the HUTCHINSON descendants was named, Dr. Leslie "Loring" HUTCHINSON, so there was a strong connection between the families.) (Reminder that Elizabeth LORING and Jacob HOMER's daughter, Betsey, married Thomas HUTCHINSON.)
Hi, I am trying to find my KNOX ancestors. Benjamin Franklin KNOX b.7.22.1823 in Dorchester MA. His father Samuel KNOX (b. 2.27.1788 D. 11.7.1837) was from New Hampshire, married Elizabeth Howard RANDALL. Any information on the above would be appreciated. Bob Girling rkgirling@yahoo.com

Hello, Someone has gotten me started thinking about my LORING ancestor, which I haven't done for a long time. I just discovered that the "LORING book" is now on-line at Google / Books. I'd like to offer this paragraph from that book. See below. I believe a few years ago I mentioned my ancestor, Mrs. Elizabeth (LORING) (HOMER) (WINNECK) WELLINGTON. She was born in 1766 to David LORING and Elizabeth FAIRSERVICE. One question which has come up is about the FAIRSERVICE name. I'm not finding anything on-line for this name in regards to the 1700's New England. And there is no List, and the Board has only 2 postings. (No Board at www.genforum.com either.) Has anyone come up with information about it? Also, I have read this afternoon that there is more information on the Mrs. WELLINGTON, above. If you go to the WELLINGTON Boards, you will see that researchers have her having a total of 9 children. With Jacob HOMER, she had a daughter, Betsey. With Mr. WINNECK she had 4 children before divorcing him, and then she had 4 children with Mr. WELLINGTON. Betsey HOMER married Thomas HUTCHINSON, and thus she is my ancestor. Also, Elizabeth LORING's first husband was Capt. Jacob HOMER. From memory, he was a mariner and he died at sea before their daughter was born. I'm pretty sure I discussed him on the Lists several years ago, but I'm not finding my old postings today. Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: 24. David' Loring (David*, Benjamin3, Benjamin*, Thomas1), born at Hull August 19,1742; married February 2, 1764, Elizabeth Fairservice; she survived him and married second November 2, 1778, Thomas Fennen (Fenecy), whom she also outlived, and married March 22, 1798, Capt. Thomas Jenner Carnes. She made her will (residing at West Cambridge) August 6, 1802, bequeathing to "my 3 grandchildren Eliza, Nathaniel* and David Loring and their mother Sarah." She died August 16, 1802. He was a shoemaker; sealer of leather for the town of Boston in 1769, made many shoes for the soldiers of the British army quartered there. Among the depositions taken by the city of Boston relative to the " Massacre" of March 5, 1770, is one by him, expressing the view that the soldiers of the 29th regiment were " a set of bloodthirsty men," quoting the remark of a soldier of that regiment that "it was a planned thing a month before." He sailed in the privateer Sturdy Decke1; Captain Campbell, in 1777, with one hundred men, which took several prizes but was lost in 1778 on the coast of France. The exact date of his death is therefore not known. Children: i. Elizabeth8, b. Apr. 10,1766; m. (1) Capt. Jacob Homer; m. (2) Mr. Winneck of Vermont; m. (3) Col. Jeduthun Wellington, of W. This is the information has been passed down in his family, and it agrees with the 1900 census, when Bart was in Iowa. Acc'd to that census, he was born in Mass. in Aug 1880. No other siblings are known, and it is thought that Bart was young when his parents died and he lived with an aunt in Omaha, NB. I'm wondering if the name might have been O'Conley or Connelly. In the 1910 census his age looks like 27, which would put his birth in 1882. I sure appreciate the time you have put into looking for his birth. Is there an on-line database for MA births? Hello, Something just reminded me that I wanted to mention a PBS show I saw on TV about a week ago. "Forgotten Ellis Island" about the history of the hospital there. I just wondered whether anyone else had seen it. It's an important show, and one story about a young man who came there by accident - was a sad story. http://forgottenellisisland.com/joomla1/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=27&Itemid=1 Betty (near Lowell, MA) .. Actually, a few years ago I looked up on-line a little history of when "hospitals" first existed in the US. From memory, I think the first one was in PA, and then NY. More sad stories came out of those very early hospitals !
Hi Betty - and all Growing up near Middleton I remember well driving past the TB Sanitarium.. big building, set back from the road, and the red symbol which was used on, I think, Easter Seals on the smoke stack. Very imposing looking building! My great great grandmother died in what I believe might have been such a place in Haverhill, Mass in about 1870, although I have not had much luck finding information about it. I'll try out your links.. I can't imagine what life must have been like for these folks during those times.. Regarding the Brigham and Women's Lying-In - I believe they used to be two separate hospitals which merged maybe in the 1960s or 70s.. There were two Brighams hospitals as well, I think.. faye ---- Betty <bbffrrpp@comcast.net> wrote: > Hello, > > Someone has asked me about what "hospitals for incurable diseases" existed > around 1900 in MA. Hi Betty, I had a great uncle who died in the Hanson TB Hospital, I wonder if anyone knows if there is a list somewhere of the patients that were at that hospital? One of the "sites" I visited was one kid talking about breaking into there, it being creepy, and them finding old CHARTS lying around! How awful. I'm hoping someone has taken care with those records, can anyone help me?
