Hello, Every time I see a name, John BRIGGS, it reminds me of a man I knew in the 1940's-1960's, John RIGGS. And I am curious whether they are 2 separate surnames. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (John and Arlene? RIGGS lived in Lexington, and were active members of the "United Order of the Golden Cross" "fraternal organization." They belonged to the lodge which was based in Somerville and Medford.)
Charles, The book that I have is "Early Settlers of Rowley, Massachusetts" by George Brainard Blodgette and Amos Everett Jewett, first published in 1933 and reprinted by New England History Press in 1981. Looking for information on Joseph DUHAMEL and Aldea Houle (my grandfather's older sister) They married in Quebec in Aug. 1909, but were not in the country for the 1901 Canadian Census. Joseph's parents had immigrated earlier, and he was born in Mass., possibly in the Springfield or Stockbridge area . Aldea had family in Lowell and Lawrence, MA. Would appreciate census lookup for 1920 for this couple. This is much easier. PREFACE This collection of views is intended to show some specimens of the 'houses built in Newburyport during the period when it ranked as one of the principal shipping and commercial centers of the country — near the time of the American Revolution and during the eariy part of the nineteenth century. In addition a few of the older seventeenth century houses are included as types of the simpler dwellings of that period. In making the choice of subjects selection has been limited to those buildings which are still in a reasonably good state of preserva- tion and which, so far as possible, have retained their original design. **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store?
