    2. Barbara Shepard Smith
    3. Hellow listers, I have an inquiry from a relative in Nova Scotia about this family. Iona Blanche Dorey died in 1989 in Dorchester, MA and we have her obituary. My relative wanted to know where the rest of the family was, or if anyone would be able to find the marriage of Edom Dorey to Iona Blanche Langille, somewhere in the 1910 year range, possibly in Boston? It has not been found in Nova Scotia. They had 2 children, Lawrence and Charles, but again I can't find them in any of the census' that I have access to. Thank you, Barbara Shepard Smith, Middleboro

    2. I have the Ewell book, but I've seen one error in it and it is the same place I may have made a mistake. Henry EWELL b 1615 m Sarah Annable. Scituate, MA (I have one of the Scituate books) Gershom EWELL (this may be an error) b 1650 m. Mary Benson or maybe, according to the book Mary G. There was another possibility in the book, but wrong--Bethia EWELL. She was his older sister. NEED HELP HERE. PLEASE Next help needed John1, b. 1699 in Scituate m. Sarah Lambert 10 Sep. 1733. Author of Ewell book says his wife was Elizabeth EWELL. I think that was his mistake. The rest is OK and it was correct on the first one Henry Ewell. Next problem. I was told that John EWELL, Henry's father was born in Scotland. That's my family story, and I do know how they can be. Henry and Sarah were both from Sandwich, Eng. Family story says John and wife (no name) went to England from Scotland and Henry was born there. If I had Henry's siblings and where they were born, that would help. Scotland is a long way from Sandwich by horse--even if there's carriage. Thank you very much, Helen **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make dinner for $10 or less. The page is difficult to read but it seems as if the head of house James was born in 1879 in Canada and it also looks like he immigrated the same year? So he should be found in the 1880 census, and the subsequent ones. It would help me a great deal if someone could come up with the spelling of the name in the other censuses, and I would look them up myself on Heritage Quest. Our goal is to trace the family back to Canada. I have a subscription to the PRDH but it starts at 1799 and goes back from that year, so I need to get the LaTremouille family back to then. It would also be a great help if someone could tell me the wife's maiden name. It looks as if her name is Marie in that lousy 1920 census copy. I did find the name on google tied into a Fournier tree, but that is only accessible through a subscription to Ancestry, which I don't have. Thank you all, Barbara Shepard, Middleboro, MA

    1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] William and Anne HUTCHINSON, 1634 (Cont'd)
    2. Betty
    3. Hi again, Just thought I would offer a few sites about Anne Marbury HUTCHINSON. First, I'd like to say that the web site I mentioned yesterday about the passengers on the "Griffin" did list both the girl and boy children of William and Anne. And, it listed the son, Edward. But, Edward was the one who came over a year ahead of time with his "Uncle Edward" to - prepare the way. http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sam/marbury/anne.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Hutchinson http://www.gordonbanks.com/gordon/family/amarbury.html Here's another web site with a small "typo?" One part has her husband as Thomas but the text has her husband, William. And, this says they had .16. children. Other sites say they had .14. children. http://www.johnpratt.com/gen/0/4/7/1.a_marbury.html This page lists the names and birth-dates of the .16. children: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/River/7560/annmarbury.html One reminder is that some researchers state that it was Anne and "all" of her children who were massacred in NY. But, her older children had already married and settled in their homes, when the widow, Anne, took her younger children to NY. And it was one of "those" daughters who was captured by the Native Americans and was raised by them. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (As a child, growing up on the HUTCHINSON farm, we thought we might be distantly related to Anne. But, our ancestors' reports showed we were not. We came from George who arrived 4 years earlier with "the Winthrop Fleet.") FYI: Among her notable descendants are U.S. Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, First Lady Lucretia Garfield, former Michigan Governor George W. Romney and former Massachusetts Governor and 2008 U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney,[citation needed] actors Chevy Chase and Ted Danson, actresses Marilyn Monroe (possibly) and Jane Wyatt, writers Louis Stanton Auchincloss, Dubose Heyward, Eve LaPlante, Robert Lowell and John P. Marquand, U.S. Attorney General Elliot Richardson, Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. and Chief Justice Melville Weston Fuller, Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, Senator Stephen Arnold Douglas, Ambassador Pamela Harriman, neuropathologist Stanley Cobb, numismatist Q. David Bowers, and LDS evangelists Parley P. Pratt and Helaman Pratt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Hutchinson FYI: A reminder that the last Governor of the MA Bay Colony was Thomas HUTCHINSON, a descendant of William and Anne. I just read on-line that his wife was also a descendant of them. http://books.google.com/books?id=kWaAAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA145&lpg=PA145&dq=%22Thomas+Hutchinson,+Governor%22&source=bl&ots=VN7x5tlMRu&sig=H7Ik3pLXGpyrbp-mHGdh0XxjgWQ&hl=en&ei=yYTHSa7qLqOxtgfx04HICg&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=9&ct=result

    3. Hi Cindy, If you search for "family Bible" at eBay, you usually find about 20+ BIBLE's up for sale. You can look at the pictures of them and the descriptions for them and usually tell whether they have pages for writing "family vitals." It is also something that researchers should do. Many of the "auctions" for them offer the "family info" which is in the BIBLE which is being sold. And, if lucky, the Seller, will give you the information - upon request. But, you need the description carefully because many Sellers do not think that "family vitals" in the BIBLE they are selling are important. It is usually the very old and very large BIBLEs which have the "family pages" in them - according to what I've seen on-line. (On a recent search, I discovered that several of the very large, very old BIBLEs with "family vitals" in them were about PA families. Were they more important in Pennsylvania?) (Disclaimer: I am not an eBay Seller and have no connection to anything being auctioned there. But, I have had the luck of finding some genealogy / history books there for a very reasonable price.) 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] William and Anne HUTCHINSON, 1634
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, In this morning's "MassMoments" e-mails there is information on "Anne HUTCHINSON" who arrived in the MA Bay Colony in 1634. She was a "religious activist" of her time. http://www.massmoments.org/moment.cfm?mid=88 Usually these daily e-mails are interesting and informative and fairly accurate. But, this morning, I see a possible "fact" which is not a fact. It states that William and Anne and their 15 children were on the ship, "Griffin," which arrived in the Colony in 1634. But, if you check the list of passengers on that ship, you only find the names of .8. of their children. http://www.ourpast.org/genealogy/histories/griffin.htm If I'm remembering the story correctly, their oldest son had joined his uncle when his uncle was heading to the Colony before them. And the uncle and the son were "sent ahead" in order to get a house built - for the large family which would be arriving in 1634. I've only read a children's book about the surviving child of the "Long Island massacre" of the family (in recent years). But, I've read probably on-line that, when "Anne Marbury HUTCHINSON" left her "nice, white cottage, with a nice flowery garden" in England, she didn't know what to expect. But, when she arrived in the Colony and saw the "very rustic cabin" in the woods where she was expected to live, she sat down and cried. .. At this moment, I don't remember how many HUTCHINSON patriarchs arrived in the Colony during the 1630's. But, I found out that my ancestor, George HUTCHINSON, and his brother, Thomas HUTCHINSON, arriving in 1630, were not related to the above William HUTCHINSON. (or at least not directly related) ... One of my genealogy-disappointments is .. having several, important ancestors from 1600's MA Bay Colony -- who have no "family history book" published about them. (In addition to the HUTCHINSON brothers, there is Francis MOORE.) Betty (near Lowell, MA) Remember to check the archives of all the Lists and Boards for your surnames and place-names. And, please remember to check the on-line auctions for for your surnames and place-names.

This morning I just opened the "history of Billerica" and came on the page for the KENDALL name. That is a name which is not mentioned too often. There is only a half-page on the name, but it starts out: "KENDALL. Jacob, was son of Francis, of Woburn, where the births of 19 children are recorded, and may be found in the history of Woburn. But he seems to have lived in Billerica long enough to secure a record here of the birth of his 20th child. Jacob, the son of Jacob and Alice KENDALL, was b. July 21, 1717." ... And someone on a CLARK Board was mentioning a CLARK family in early Tewksbury. Since Tewksbury annexed off of Billerica in the 1730's, I checked the Billerica book to see if the CLARK name is mentioned. But, there are only a few, very brief mentions of CLARK in the Billerica book. But one mention is of a Rev. Thomas CLARK who m. 1702 to an Elizabeth STEARNS. It says he was the pastor of the church in Chelmsford from 1678 to his death in 1704. Oh, just noticed they were only married for 2 yrs. Elizabeth had one daughter born after her husband's death. Samuel and Abigail (CLARK) GREEN had important descendants. .. I don't remember at this second why I opened to the STICKNEY page, but I saw this: "7. Jonathan, son of Daniel, 3, b. 1736 .. m. Silence ______. He enlisted for the invasion of Canada, 1759; was at Bunker Hill and in other Revolutionary service; and in 1785, as a Major, led the Billerica Artillery, in a snow-storm to Cambridge to guard the Supreme Judicial Court during Shay's Rebellion; d. 1802 .... and his widow .. d. 1807.... CH: Silence, b1758 .. m. Benjamin BOWERS ...." The reason this paragraph caught my eye is that unusual names given to babies are being discussed on other Lists. And I mentioned that sometimes babies who are "stillborn" or die shortly after birth are given the name, Silence. So, I was surprised to see that a baby girl with that name - grew to adulthood ! (And her daughter with same name did.) Just an FYI for you. Betty (near Lowell, MA) (The only name above which is on my family-tree is CLARK. One of my "concrete-block walls" is a James CLARK born 1790-1800 "somewhere." He seems to have been a "travelin' man" going to many countries. The only child I know of was Mary Anna CLARK, b~1836 in Westport, MA. She grew up to become Mrs. John DEXTER of Killingly, CT. In ~1885 they moved to Melrose, MA, and in 1892 adopted a little girl; they renamed her Mary Anna Clark DEXTER - who became my grandmother. Adding to that, when "May" married in 1911, she wrote down that William CLARK was her birth-father. We have no idea who that was.) FYI: If you want people in the future to find your old postings, you need to type a space between the surnames you are discussing: For example, DEXTER / CLARK. If you search for DEXTER in the "Archive Search" feature, it won't show up if the names are typed: DEXTER/CLARK.
