Greetings, Below is the first part of a list of volumes numbers from the Massachusetts Vital Records database. If the entry you are looking for does not match up with type (BMD), year, or county, then there is an error. The database webmaster has repaired a lot of missing images, so now is a good time for you to email me, John Ledden, or Dale Cook about problems with entries whether it is incorrect image or missing image. Hi everyone, I was hoping if someone with a subscription to Ancestry could check to see if there is an obit for an Edouard Lamoureux. He died on December 17, 1934 in Lowell, Massachusetts. I have a subscription to Newspaper Archive, but apparently that newspaper is not online yet. Any help would be appreciated. Maureen

Hello, Could this be your Calvin KIDDER? Daniel F. Johnson : Volume 1 Number 206 Date March 22 1799 County Saint John Place Saint John Newspaper The Saint John Gazette The language of the text is the original used in the newspaper entry and as transcribed by Daniel F. Johnson. Records acquired by the Provincial Archives are not translated from the language in which they originate. Scoodiac, Charlotte Co., upset of mail boat crossing to St. Andrews. Five drowned: James SPRAGUE, Calvin KIDDER, James TROTT, John HODGE, Samuel TROTT (see original) My notes: Scoodiac River is another name for the St Croix River that forms the boundary between Maine and New Brunswick. St. Andrews was settled by Penobscot Loyalists who also settled along the St Croix River in places like Oak Bay. My ancestor Sylvester Cottrell was a loyalist who settled in St. David parish near Oak Bay. He does not appear on any Penobscot Loyalist list. His son's land grant petition mentions the family fleeing Isleborough to Castine to be under British protection because his father was a "tory". The family eventually moved to New Brunswick on their own. There are also statements from Colin Campbell, one of the notable Penobscot Loyalists. He did get the land grants. So given the time frame and where he moved to I would assume he was a "Tory". I do not see Kidder listed in the Land Grant Petitions but usually the sons and grandsons petition. 73 Eric ----- Start Original Message ----- Sent: Wed, 15 Apr 2009 13:49:36 -0400 From: "Betty" <bbffrrpp@comcast.net> To: <newengland-societies@rootsweb.com>, <MAMIDDLE-L@rootsweb.com>, <genMassachusetts-L@rootsweb.com> Subject: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Patriot's Day Activities - 19th and 20th > Hello, > > Just a reminder for people in or near Boston and Cambridge, MA, this weekend > (or visiting), the annual Patriot's Day activities will be taking place. > The State Holiday is on Monday, but I've read that at least 2 towns will be > holding some of the events on Sunday - the 19th of April. > > http://www.arlingtonma.gov:80/Public_Documents/ArlingtonMA_HServe/Veterans/PatriotsDayParade > > http://www.arlingtonhistorical.org/ > > This is strange. Hello, Just a reminder for people in or near Boston and Cambridge, MA, this weekend (or visiting), the annual Patriot's Day activities will be taking place. The State Holiday is on Monday, but I've read that at least 2 towns will be holding some of the events on Sunday - the 19th of April. http://www.arlingtonma.gov:80/Public_Documents/ArlingtonMA_HServe/Veterans/PatriotsDayParade http://www.arlingtonhistorical.org/ This is strange. Patriot's Day activities are not mentioned on the site for the Bedford Historical Society (or the town's web site). http://www.bedfordmahistory.org/calendar.htm The events in Concord, MA, are mentioned on the town's web site. I'm having trouble finding the web site for the Concord Historical Society: http://www.concordma.gov/pages/ConcordMA_BComm/calendar There are events in Lexington: http://www.lexingtonhistory.org/pmwiki.php?n=Main.UpcomingEvents There is an event in Cambridge on Sunday, but I'm not sure it's directly related to Patriot's Day: http://www.cambridgehistory.org/Events/2009_calendar.html Oh, the web site for the City of Cambridge mentions an event for Monday: http://www.cambridgema.gov/VET/NewsDetail.cfm?story_id=2099 Don't forget the famous "Paul Revere's Ride" which also went through Somerville, etc. http://www.paulreverehouse.org/ride/recreate.shtml And, don't forget that 3 or 4 other men "rode off" that night - some traveling to other Colonies. http://www.usa-patriotism.com/speeches/revere1.htm http://openlibrary.org/b/OL4929162M/Bicentennial-history-of-the-midnight-ride%2C-April-18-19%2C-1775%2C-of-William-Dawes%2C-first-rider-for-revolution http://www.michellehenry.fr/revolution.htm http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/visitor/50th_anniversary.html Perhaps someone can remind me of the names of the other "riders" - that fateful night ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: I probably have several ancestors who fought during the Revolutionary War. I've never made a list of them. But, one of my ancestors, Calvin KIDDER (1765-1799), is a mystery to researchers. He was the middle son of Joseph KIDDER in New Ipswich and Temple, NH. At ~Age 18, he left NH with other families to head to New Brunswick. His older brother, Wilder KIDDER, was a "famous and animated Fifer" in the War, and he fought in several Colonies, including NY and NJ. His younger brother, Joseph, Jr., fought at Age 13. But, no one knows whether Calvin fought - before he left ~1784. Possibly related to Calvin's son's family was William WILKINS who served from "Maine" as "light duty." And, Ashabel RICE fought. Hmmm. I'll have to check out whether ancestors on same branch of tree fought: HUTCHINSON, CROSBY, FROST, etc.

Could someone with access to the Vital Records of Charlestown in NEGS please look in the births to see if you can find a listing for Walter in probably about 1727. If he is there who might his parents be? He was supposedly from the Isle of Wight or Ireland but he married Elizabeth Ann Gilford in Danvers in 1761. I just discovered in "the Lovett Genealogy" that there were Larkins in Charlestown - so maybe he might be there. Thanks in advance faye
Hello, Someone e-mailed me this morning about my husband's MOURA great-grandparents. That reminded me that I never found out whether his grandmother's 2 brothers married in MA before they moved out of the state. And I don't know where they lived before they moved out of state. This is his great-grandmother who arrived from the Azores ~1911 with her youngest child: MOURA, PHOEBE (1920 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 1-WD CAMBRIDGE Age: 46, Female, Race: WHITE, Born: PORT Series: T625 Roll: 707 Page: 7 Her official name was Philomena (sp?) MOURA and this means she was prob. born ~1875. With her at this time is her daughter, Carolina "Carrie" MOURA, Age 12. Carrie would have been born ~1908. Phoebe's oldest child was Elsie MOURA born ~1893. So, the 3 middle children were born between 1893 and 1908, with "Rosie" reportedly being the 2nd child. So, her 2 sons, "Frank" and "Mannie," would have been born between 1895 and 1907. The 1920 census has 19 people in MA with the MOURA name, with 11 of them in Bristol County. One of the men is a Francisco, 19, living as a boarder in a hotel or rooming house: MOURA, FRANCISCON (1920 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , BRISTOL, 2-WD NEW BEDFORD Age: 19, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: PORT Series: T625 Roll: 685 Page: 90 He could be Phoebe's son. It says he arrived in 1919, which means he arrived ~8 years after his mother did. There are 3 Manuel MOURA's in Bristol Co. in 1920, but they are in their 30's to 50's. So, they were not younger than Elsie, who was 27 in this census with her husband. (correct name PACHECO). But, the "family story" could be wrong, perhaps Manny was the first child. PACHICO, TONY (1920 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 2-WD CAMBRIDGE Age: 34, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: PORT Series: T625 Roll: 707 Page: 49 The "Ellis Island Museum" has other MOURA people heading to Brooklyn, NY, around this time. My "suspicion" is that Phoebe's husband either "died at sea" as a whaler, or the couple "separated" and Francisco "Frank" MOURA went to Brooklyn - when she went to Cambridge. At some point their son, Manuel "Manny" MOURA, moved to Brooklyn, NY, and remained there. At some point, (son) Francisco "Frank" MOURA, moved to California - reportedly to "wine country" and remained there. I cannot access the 1930 census, and I wondered whether someone could try to find "Frank" MOURA in MA or CA and "Manny" MOURA in MA on NY. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: "Phoebe" MOURA died in the 1940's, so she should be in the 1930 census. "Carrie" had married Frank MEDEIROS, but I think during the 1920's in Somerville. "Rosie" married Charles PERRY (prob PEREIRA) and they were living in Somerville in 1920 census. (5 siblings)
Hello, I just accidentally found a Google / book a few minutes ago which some might be interested in: http://books.google.com/books?pg=PP9&lpg=RA1-PA140&dq=%22Dr.+Charles+Stearns%22&id=kmujIJi3_FkC&ots=asC93Y0h9j#PRA1-PA23,M1 I don't remember it being mentioned before. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. What I was looking for was any article on the former, and long-time Town Historian in Billerica, Dr. Charles STEARNS. Maybe 10 years ago, he retired and moved to Texas. The last I heard he was no longer an active man. He had a large collection of history and genealogy books, and I'm curious whether they remained in Billerica or he took them with him when he moved.

Do you know anything about Elkanah born 1709 son of Samuel Fuller and Elizabeth Thatcher? I believe he married several times, my interest is in his marriage to Naomy (maybe her name was Fuller also, perhaps the daughter of Samuel Fuller and Naomi Rowley???) The Mayflower Families third edition 2006 (pg 87-88) show that Elkanah Fuller married first Mary Andrews, second Naomi and third Lydia ____ Hooker. Children born to Elkanah Fuller and Mary Andrews; Sarah b. 9 Oct 1732 Samuel b. 25 Sep 1733, d. 30 Dec 1737 Eleanor b. 23 Aug 1735. d. 15 Apr 1737 Mary b. 1 Jun 1737 Bethia b.9 Feb 1738/39 Children born to Elkanah Fuller and Lydia ___ Hooker; Samuel 9 Feb 1743/44 Bethany b. 12 Mar 1746 No children to Naomi........................ This information can not be correct as Elkanah Fuller did not marry Lydia _____ Hooker until 1767 and the children accredited in this book to Lydia ____ Hooker were born well before that date, i.e Samuel 1743/44 and Bethany 1746. I checked with the Mayflower Society (VT) and they advised that there is a correction to this, here is the reply: "regarding the fuller book stating that Elkanah & naomy had no children is incorrect.......the book when published was incorrect but the proof readers missed it.......we as historians, were notified that Samuel & Bethany were by his 2nd wife, Naomi...shortly after the book was printed and issued". I am trying to determine if there was another daughter born to Elkanah and Naomy named Hannah born 1748. I have a Josiah Read/Reed who married "Hannah" (believe Fuller) they named their eldest son "Rodolphus" ~ Elkanah Fuller had a brother named Rodolphus and plus Elizabeth Thatcher's father was Rev. Rodolphus Thatcher. Any further info or comment on these people much appreciated. Thank you Janice Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
