Albert C. Wilson, one of the best known and highly respected business men of Greeley, died in his home, 728 Twelfth street, at about 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 23 after an illness of about five weeks. Few men, if anybody in Greeley, had more warm friends than Mr. Wilson, made a through a business career of sixteen years in the city. They were numbered among the old and young, in city in country. Deceased was born in Easton, Mass., May 19, 1845, and was brought up in Kingston, Mass., where his parents moved shortly after his birth. He was the last surviving member of the Wilson family, a brother dying two years ago, leaving no heirs to the name, as did also A.C. Wilson. He enlisted for the Civil war in Massachusetts regiment and served both in the field and in the hospital service. He was married to Jane C. Bemis in Danielson, Conn., March 13, 1867. Most of their married life was spent in Worchester, Mass., until sixteen years ago, whey they came to Greeley, where Mr. Wilson bought into the grocery business with Gale & Lee, and the firm became Gale, Lee & Wilson. Since then the firm name has changed several times and is not the Delbridge-Wilson Mercantile company. W. H. Delbridge leading the firm name. Mr. Wilson was not a member of any church in Greeley, but usually attended the Congregational church and the Rev. Frank M. Sheldon conducted the funeral services. He was an Odd Fellow, belonging to Quin Sigamond lodge No. 43 of Worchester, never having his membership transferred to a western lodge. The funeral services were closed for two hours Tuesday afternoon out of respect for the memory of Mr. Wilson. The pall bearers were John F. Brons, George S. Adams, William H. Edwards, Calvin Randolph and W. H. Delbridge. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi again, I just reread the Events page for the "Lowell Cemetery" and I mis-read it. It's the "Annual Parade" which is happening this coming Sunday !! I "missed" telling you about the "Cemetery Tour." They happened on May 1 and May 9. http://www.lowellcemetery.com/ If you want more information, the phone number to get information is posted on the Events page: There are many pictures on the site, including some very nice photos ! Betty (near Lowell, MA)
Hello, Just a quick note to say that the "annual tour" of the "Lowell Cemetery" will take place this coming Sunday ! I'm told it is an interesting and picturesque tour ! http://www.lowellcemetery.com/ Just a reminder that there are many cemeteries in Lowell. The one called the "Lowell Cemetery" is on Lawrence Street, and it borders the Concord River. There is a set of adjoining cemeteries in a different neighborhood in South Lowell. One is the "Edson Cemetery," and that is both on Rt. 3A and on Boston Rd. in Lowell. (South Lowell is an OK neighborhood, and there shouldn't be any concerns about being there during the day !)
