    3. I have been searching for a connection to a HOLE/HOEL/HOOLE family for Charles HOLE b c 1700. He resided in Southold, Long Is., Suffolk Co., NY, in 1727 when he was shown as executor of an estate. Chas. was in Essex Co, NJ by 1732. He may also have lived in Flushing, NY, but most of their records have been destroyed. A John HOLE came to New England in 1638 but settled in York, ME. There is a Thomas HOOLE in Boston in 1665. Unknown origin. Any info on any HOLE family appreciated. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Elisha Smith
    2. Faye
    3. Good Morning My gr gr gr grandfather was Elisha Smith, born in Massachusetts - possibly Worcester - on May 14, 1776 if my calculations from his death date and age at death are correct. He was a captian in the War of 1812. He eventually moved to Tuftonboro NH, where he lived out his life. He married someone named Sarah, and they had a son Isaac D. in about 1820. I don't know if they had any other children or not. I once received a lead to an Elisha in Worcester but, as he was born in November 1776 I think he may not be the correct one. It seems there may have been two born there that year, as according to the 1840 census there was one in Worcester and one in Tuftonboro. I am trying to either confirm he was from Worcester or find out from where he was, who his parents were, and who Sarah might have been. thanks in advance faye

It would help if you could say which County in MA this lady lived in. And, do you know for sure that she was married when she had the daughter, Priscilla? A quick check of census information shows there were over 370 people with the ROY name in MA in 1900. And they were in several, different counties. I can't check the 1930 census, so I don't know which city or town Joseph and Clara CARPENTER lived in at that time. And there were 19 Joseph CARPENTER's in MA in 1910, and 15 in 1920. Thanks for the good news Betty about the farm's addition to the National Park site - if I remember correctly, and am thinking of the right place, there is (or at least was) a pane of glass in the house with a hole from a bullet in it there. If people who enjoyed Little Women and other Alcott books should visit Minuteman Park the Louisa May Alcott house is not far and a nice place to see. The whole area is beautiful and full not only of Revolutionary historic sites, but literary ones as well. faye ---- Betty <bbffrrpp@comcast.net> wrote: > Hello, > > I tried to find some web sites which tell about the "historic sites" in > Concord, and, when I Googled, I found this newspaper page from January. > It talks about the BARRETT Farm: > > http://www.wickedlocal.com/concord/archive/x1943021720/Senate-passes-bill-to-add-Barretts-Farm-to-Minuteman-Park > > During the past winter, I think I saw an episode on "History Detectives" > which talked about a "cannon" at a farm in Concord. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Visiting "Lexington & Concord" this summer?
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, Someone has asked about "family events" and "historic places" in Concord, MA, for an upcoming vacation. If people and/or their family are planning a week's vacation to "Lexington and Concord," don't forget that you might need a two-week vacation to see all the things you "could" see. And I wanted to remind you that you could start in Cambridge (or Somerville) and see the many sites there, and head into Arlington - on "Massachusetts Avenue." Then continue down that road into Lexington, another important "town center." From there you head into Bedford, with more "historic sites" to visit. In Bedford, you have a couple of choices. You could head west and go into Concord. Or, you could continue on the same road (stopping for ice cream at "Bedford Farms"), and head into Billerica. In this town, you could branch off and head into the "Center," or you could continue on Rt. 4 and head up to Chelmsford Center. (Rt. 4 actually goes into North Chelmsford.) And, in Bedford, you could also branch off and head into Carlisle. I enjoy driving through Carlisle, and there is a "State Park" there - where you can also get ice cream, and visit some farm animals. You can also get to Concord - from Carlisle Center, another nice drive ! Perhaps others can make suggestions for "places to visit" in these historic towns. Or, places to take the children - in these historic towns. Don't forget that you can request a "free" - "Massachusetts Travel Guide." And, there are the "free" "Official Transportation Maps" (in each state) which provide information. http://www.mass.gov/dcr/publicationRequest.htm http://www.massvacation.com/ Oh, this site mentions some events I did not know about: http://www.merrimackvalley.org/page.php?wpage=home/home.htm Just an FYI for you. Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: In MA, as probably in most of New England and parts of New York, there are many "valleys." In addition to the Merrimack Valley, there is the Nashoba Valley and the Assabet Valley and Pioneer Valley: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_Valley As a life-long MA resident, a family could spend a whole summer in New England and not see - everything there is to see - which is of an historic nature.
