If you need more details, let me know. In 1910, there are a few changes; the wife is Diana, and she had 10 children, but only 3 live. This time the children are: Anna, 21, Oscar, 11, and Edward, 8. And this time it says the couple were married 26 years. This time it says John arrived in 1881, and it says "own income." In 1920, some of the information is different again. This time the wife's name looks like Dinah (sp?). And they have Oscar and Edward still living at home. And this says John arrived in 1868. (I think 1879 was the year he was naturalized.) John is retired by now. It looks like Oscar is an electrician ??. That's all for now. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Additional information about amended records
    2. Sue Richart
    3. Just a reminder, the Massachusetts State Archives has allowed release of Amended Records up to 1900. Those will be coming to the NEHGS website reasonably soon. If you need an amended record 1901 or later, you should contact the town that holds the original record for the information. It is going to be awhile (think five to ten years), before the next bunch are released, as the archives does this in five year increments. I would also suggest you do a couple of other things, particularly if it is a birth. First, look for an un-named child with the correct or similar surname born in the right year and town. I would check each of those. I'm not sure how often, but a percentage of the time, the birth was recorded, but no first name was given. Often, but not always, you will see "Corrected" listed over the top of it. Second, even if the database shows the entry as an amended record, call up the specific page number, year, and town (leaving off volume and name information) for the entry to see what else shows up. If there are a bunch of entries and all show Amended Record, then good chances are it is an amended record. But, if other entries with a full volume number show up, then check the available images to see if your entry is there. That does happen and I just fixed one of these yesterday. Sometimes there was a scanning error and a digit was dropped, making the record look like an amended record, but it wasn't. What you will notice about the amended records are the pages numbers go up by year. For example, if you were to check Chilmark entries for volume 1, with years going from 1844-1910, you can see the pattern. A reminder, volume 8 1845 to 1897 are for Boston amended birth, marriage, and death records. Third, go ahead and email me to check the index. I will check the index to see what was recorded there. It may still be an amended record, but the surname or given name may be different as well as the page number. I've been finding a number of errors in the database as I call up amended record volumes to mark them as connected. Quite common is to see two surnames connected. One is correct and the other was carried over from another entry. Just so you know, there are still a lot of amended records that either show "image not available" or appear to be connected, but are for a very early event in the 1840s. It takes time to get them all marked correctly. Sue Richart

    1. Re: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Gregoire-VINCENT marriage
    2. Sue Richart
    3. Kim and Sister Gregoire, The entry should be Oscar Marie Vincent. It is not uncommon for an amended record to have part of the prior or following entry in it, which is the case here. I will correct the entry. 1898 volume 94 pg 333 is an amended record. The image isn't available yet, but will be when the images for amended records to 1900 are added. I know that the NEHGS has received the first four microfilms of the amended records, but don't know when they will be added. There are some issues with what to name the images so they are different from the regular volume 94 pg 333 for a much earlier time frame. Just a note, the NEHGS is getting the microfilms from the Family History Library by request from the Massachusetts State Archives, since most are still in the vault and normally not releasable. For Sister Gregorie: I sent some material to you a while back, but never heard anything from you. I'm wondering if it was either the size of the images and it looked like they went, but didn't. Please let me know. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] NEHGS lookup - SPRAGUE, Howard Dexter
    2. Allyssa Edwards
    3. Could someone lookup a couple things for me. I'm seeking the birth of Howard Dexter SPRAGUE, born 1891 in Lynn, Mass for me please? he has sometimes gone as Dexter Howard SPRAGUE, but the archives index lists as Howard first. Howard married a Blanche (UNKNOWN) between 1910-1915 I believe. Likely also in Lynn. I'd love to be able to get that record too, so I can get Blanche's last name. I'm also seeking a Charles SPRAGUE, who is son of this Howard. He was born abt 1915, so I'm not sure if he'd be in there or not, since I'm not positive of the exact year. But any one of these would be very helpful. Thank you for your time. -- ~*~ Allyssa (New England, USA) ~*~ (I am house-bound, so can only search from home.
