    3. Betty --   Just because Robert was a member of the LDS Church does not mean he knew about his family tree -- a great many members do not.  It isn't an automatic thing.  The Church does not trace your ancestry -- that is up to individuals to do.  Going to a meeting house won't be of any value as they don't hold any records like this -- and any membership records would be sent to Salt Lake City upon the member's death.   If Robert did any research into his ancestry he might have submitted it under the various choices you can search at www.familysearch.org.    Hope this helps. I'll explain a little.     I've mentioned the HUTCHINSON Farm and the families that lived there many times.    The HUTCHINSON's bought it from a GARDNER family in the 1720's and it existed until the 1950's.    During the late 1800's, the families that lived there became "land rich and money poor."     Somewhere around 1900 one-half of the farm was sold.    When my "Grandma KIDDER" died in 1958, the seond half of the farm was sold. In that farm were 2 siblings who never married, so their parents, Thomas and Mary HUTCHINSON had no grandchildren.    Across the street were Jacob and Eliza HUTCHINSON who had 3 children, but one daughter died as a teen. George was the their son.   He married and had a son, Carleton.    Carleton married and had a son, Leslie.     There were several divorces in that extended family, so the children probably lived in 2 homes, or went back and forth.     Carleton's EX lived in Cambridge, and that is where Leslie lived. And, even though we lived in the next town,  I have no memory of meeting that family. It was only 2-3 years ago I took more interest in finding out more about Leslie.    I found out he became  Dr. Leslie "Loring" HUTCHINSON, a Podiatrist in Cambridge, possibly up past 1960.   Then I found out he had married, and they had one son, Robert HUTCHINSON. Unfortunately, I didn't find out about "Bob" HUTCHINSON until 2 years after he had been killed in a car accident.    Because he lived in Ayer and died in Westford, I was able to find his obituary.    From that I found out he was a teacher in Ayer, and he had never married.    That meant he was the last, male HUTCHINSON from the Farm in Winchester. * I went to Ayer Town Hall and saw the information on his death record.    It said that a maternal cousin was the contact.    I wrote to the lady, and she responded.   But she didn't offer information, and she said that Bob did not know anything about his family-tree. When I reread his obituary last week,  I was reminded that he was a member of the Mormon Church in Littleton.     I mentioned that to a researcher in Ayer, and she reminded me --  if Bob did belong to that church, he "DID" know his family-tree !     (That had totally slipped by me 2 yrs. ago.) :o( ***   So, my question is:    Is there a way for me to obtain a copy of this family-tree of  -- Robert Loring HUTCHINSON   (1937-2005)  --  from the Mormon Church ???      (Should I visit the meetinghouse in Littleton?) Betty         (near Lowell, MA) * There was another brother from the Farm, John HUTCHINSON, who moved to Brooklyn, NY, ~1860.    I have not been able to find out about his descendants. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Madeira Mamore Expedition to Brazil, Metropolis Mercedita & Richmond
    2. Bob Moyer
    3. Hello everyone, I have finished indexing the names for a new database for the Madeira Mamore Expedition of 1878 which involved constructing a railroad in Brazil by US engineers, contractors and laborers. The names are mostly PA, NJ, NY, DE, MA, MD, WV, KY and OH. My project started as a search for person named Philip BOWERS in my family tree who I finally found in one of the newspaper articles and my project since expanded into something much more. Since I had collected so much information I thought it might be a good time to share it with other researchers. The project consists of two web pages: 1) a source or reference page (bibliography) with links to where the names were found, and 2) the database of names to which it is linked You can access both at the web site below: http://web.rtmc.net/~bobmoyer/1878/sources.htm I you have a missing person from this time period you need to check the database, especially if they were from PA, NJ, NY, DE or MD. The names in the list are not currently found by searching the Internet or Rootsweb. Rootsweb support said the names will all eventually become indexed - indexing runs in two month cycles. Short Synopsis: The Disastrous American Expedition of 1878 that included the contractors P. & T. Collins (Col. George Earl Church) and the laborers who went to Brazil to build a railroad was also called the "The Railroad of Death" and a "railroad from no-place to no-where". It was estimated that a worker died for every sleeper that was laid in the jungle and the loss of workers was on a scale that rivaled the Panama Canal project. The purpose of this project is to create a database of names by transcribing newspaper accounts, books and other sources about the expedition. Careful attention has been given to separate these names from the later Farquar/Jekyll expedition of 1907-1912. Thousands of men from many countries lost their lives in both expeditions. I've read that many men kept diaries while working in Brazil and I have a few in my sources but I'm sure there are others. If you have anything to add I would welcome your contribution. Happy Hunting - please let me know if you find anything helpful. Sincerely, Bob Moyer Instructor, Ed2go - Genealogy Basics Researching the Pennsylvania names of Moyer, Rempp, Klug, Mattern, Magargal and BOWERS, the name that originally started this project. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ITALIANS-PA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    2. You might want to probe some more as it was common to use a 'vault' in mid-winter for a temporary interment, pending mild weather and the ability to dig a grave. And not all cemeteries have vaults, so a vault at a different cemetery might have been used until Spring. In a message dated 6/6/2009 11:32:58 A.M. Moses Meek goes off the radar after the birth of his last child in 1746. The Peter LaFRANCE (Jr.) family was in NJ (son of the Peter above) and was shown as a taxable person in Pequannock Twp., Morris Co., NJ in 1778. Perhaps the MEEK and LaFRANCE families had moved to NJ during Moses Meek's lifetime??? Anyone have any MEEK family in Pequannock Twp., Morris Co., NJ that may have migrated from MA?? We know she was born in June 1884 in England. We have not found a passenger list that includes her but she was in NY by 1917. We believe that she was the person who married John Barton in Kinderhook, Columbia Co NY om 14 July, 1914. I say 'believe' because the bride's name was Elizabeth LaPaugh. We are positive that Elizabeth ? was the mother of Cora Elizabeth Barton b 27 Oct 1917 in Poestenskill, Rensselaer Co, NY. The father was John Barton b 1 Sept 1858 NY. He died 3 Feb 1918 Sand Lake, Rensselaer Co NY. We lose tract of Elizabeth ? Barton until 1925 when she married James Priest in North Adams, Berkshire Co MA. Have searched all censuses without success. Dght Cora Elizabeth Barton was in the Troy City Asylum, Rensselaer Co NY orphanage on the 1920 census. She was a ward of the court until her marriage in 1937 in North Adams, Berkshire Co MA. That indicates to us that she must have been reunited with her mother, Elizabeth ? Barton Priest. On Cora's marriage license it gives the name of her parents and that is where we find the maiden name of Marshall for her mother. I am assisting a man who is the son of Cora Elizabeth Barton with this research. We are members of the same local genealogy study group. He has spent 15 yrs trying to unravel this brick wall and his mother worked on it before her death. I have read that Berkshire CO MA was once part of NY so I am assuming that it was a common occurrence for people to move btw the two states.
