If you page forward, and view the back of the card you'll see that the father is Cornelius and he is listed as born in NY. This is weird though, since Francis is listed as born in, and residing in NY. In addition, he already appears to be married to Caroline (Carrie) in the 1870 Census, living in Lynn, MA. Either they were pretending to be married, or had been married by a state and then remarried in the church later on. They are also in Lynn in 1880. I don't know where Frank was in 1860, but every other census lists him as born in MA! Good luck with the cemetery search. This might help --> http://www.cityofboston.gov/Parks/HBGI/visiting.asp. Other surrounding sites to consider are Woodlawn in Everett, Mount Auburn in Cambridge, Forest Hills in JP, etc. (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gchung/cemetery.htm) As you pointed out with George H's record, death records are questionable since the information comes from informants that might not exactly know the information. I do want to check on the NH link. On my Great-great grandfather's death certificate it states that his father George H was born in NY. Hello, For many years I've been wondering where my ancestor's older brother, Wilder KIDDER, lived his last years and died. No one seemed to know. According to the KIDDER book, he was "a famous and animated Fifer" in the American Revolution. And he fought in several states. While in NJ, in 1781 he married a NJ woman, Margaret "Lucretia" MIDDAGH. They never had children, and we don't know where they lived after the marriage. The main KIDDER researcher found them living in Tioga County, NY, in 1810. And I found them in 1820 living in Jaffrey, NH. But I asked and they did not die there. Wilder was born in 1753 in New Ipswich, NH, and was the oldest of 9 children born to Joseph and Rebecca (CHAMBERLAIN) KIDDER. * The family moved to the next town, Temple, NH. There is a soldier's monument in Temple, and Wilder's name is on it. Joseph and Rebecca had 3 sons, and also their youngest, Joseph, Jr., fought as a young teen. ** Because so much more information is now on-line, this weekend I found a book on-line, "Pension Rolls for 1835 for the Mid-Atlantic States." Wilder's name is there, so it is known he was alive in 1835. And it mentions he had transferred from Cheshire Co., NH. I found another reference to him being in NY in 1835. Wilder would have been 72 that year, so he could have lived a long life, possibly up past 1840, even up to 1850. (His father had lived to see Age 90.) Thinking about this, I'm curious whether he went back to live in Tioga Co., NY. So, I went to find information on that county, and I found out it has an Historical Society. I just e-mailed them. On the web site it mentions a little about the few towns in the County. One of the towns was started by a group of men from Boston, MA. http://www.tiogahistory.org/Site/Newark_Valley.html In the year 1785 or 1786 there was formed in Boston, Mass., a company of eleven men (later enlarged to sixty) for the purchase of land “in the west.” Three of the original eleven soon came to this part of the county to “view the land.” These men were Amos Patterson, his brother-in-law, Co. Avid Pixley and Captain Joseph Raymond. The company, or syndicate, as it would be termed now, purchased this tract of land from the “Government of Massachusetts,” then called the Boston Purchase or Boston Ten Townships. They called themselves the “Boston Purchase Company.” Col. Pixley was one of the commissioners sent out to trade with the Indians for “rights to the soil.” He learned the Indian language and greatly endeared himself to the Indians. I'll investigate this further, but I thought someone on this List might be interested in this "Boston Purchase" in NY State. Betty (near Lowell, MA) *Their middle son was my ancestor, Calvin KIDDER, b1765 NH. ~1784 he followed other NH families to New Brunswick, but he was not a Loyalist or Sympathizer. Perhaps at 19 he followed a girlfriend. ** There is a mystery about the youngest son, Joseph, Jr., as he had a cousin with the same name. The cousin was Joseph, son of Francis, of the Westford area. They both fought in the Rev. War, and no one knows which was was killed in NY and which one survived to marry in Temple, NH.

Daughter Sarah lists her place of birth as Charlestown on her marriage record, but it is recorded as Nelson, NH on daughter Georgianna's birth register. Also NH on the 1860 Census. (And Georgiana appears to be named after George H's wife!) Daughter Helen Riblets marriage to Richard Morse indicates she was born in Roxbury. Since the state is not listed, the general inference is MA. But, Roxbury, NH is not very far from Nelson, outside of Keene. Perhaps the clerk assumed MA(??). And Geoerge H's marriage indicates Temple, NH.(You had mentioned NY in your first post... where'd that come from?) Which then raises question about these pre-1850 records (from NEHGS). Because the birth records were considered illegible, I had assumed that NH was a mistake, but now I suspect not. The Russell surname for Cornelius is also curious. At first I had assumed it was something illegible, but maybe not. Unfortunately, I can't see the original records. Dec. 1, 1835.Death Charlestown, MA (VRs to 1850) Initially I was guessing that Sarah went to see family when having the babies. Although it's not uncommon for the first or second, it would be unusual to travel for each one. Plus her death record indicates that she was born in South Reading. (I was hoping for a NH location.) It may be very difficult to determine conclusively where Cornelius was born. I suspect NY because he seemed pretty consistent with it, and certainly, whomever the informant was at the time of his death, believed that he was from NYC. Unfortunately, if those NY records exist, they will be near impossible to find. The city archive doesn't go back that far. The next best would be to find the marriage record. I would typically look in the town of the bride, but we don't know where that was. I checked the Reading records without luck. Ditto for Charlestown. A couple of other random bits... Maybe there is a clue at http://www.green-wood.com/burial_search/. Type in Riblet in the surname field. Also, I noticed at ancestry that there was a probate record for Cornelius dated 1866. Probably will/estate related, but it might have useful info. Perhaps the MA Archives can help you with that --> http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcres/residx.htm Sorry i can't help more. I had a phone call about 2 years ago from a distant cousin of my mother. His name is Roger Gilbert from New York. He sent me some pictures that surprisingly, my mother also had. He thought he had a picture of Elsie, but as it turned out it wasn't her. He also had a picture of mom's aunt and uncle that raised her as a teen. Aldea (Cote) and Arthur Edward LaMountain. It was their wedding picture. I had never seen that one. I have it posted in my family tree. I also have pictures of Uncle Art's brothers, Adolphus and Joe. I have lots of pictures of other LaMountains but have to scan them in first. By the way, your Aunt Connie is still alive and well. She's 86 as of May 1, 2011. She's quite sharp and quite the woman. Dad is also living, 85 and counting. Through Roger Gilbert we learned that Elsie LaMountain Tedford died in South Carolina in the '90s, I think. I have it saved in my iPhoto. I don't think that I've posted it yet to my family tree. I have pictures that I need to scan in also. We have very few photos of Elsie. I have a picture of your mom and her sisters at cousin Arlene Mooney's wedding from years ago. At least, I think that was your mom. At any rate, when I get the bug to do the research I try to confirm the facts with mom. If you need any help, please let me know. Also, if you have any pictures that you can share, that would be wonderful. I don't know much about the Gilberts but I would like to put that connection in with the LaMountains. My mother is very interested in what happened to her grandmother. She wants to know when she died and where. I found her mother's (Melinda LaMountain) obituary. She lived with Aunt Emma in North Adams. I think I saved that to my shoebox online. So cousin, if you would like to swap family histories, I would love to share with you. I have been copying family pictures from mom and dad's extensive collection for years. I'm trying to do this for my two sons so they have something to share with their kids some day. Hello, I'm just discussing on the Maine List why some people left Washington County, Maine, to move over to Canterbury, York Co., New Brunswick. I looked on-line and there could have been several reasons, including the fact that in 1865 "9000 British Troups" were moving through that town - on their way to other Provinces. My ancestor, George Freeman WILKINS, was a Maine resident, but he married Mary NEAL from New Brunswick during the 1830's. During the 1850's, they from Maine to Canterbury, N.B. They had 10 children, some born ME, some born NB. During 1870's some of the family moved back to ME after Mary died. When I was looking for information on the Town of Canterbury, I came across Ruby Cusack's web site. She has had an informative web site since 1998, and you can place queries there. I discovered one of my old queries there, but it looks like I posted it almost 10 yrs. ago. :o) When I looked around the site, I found this page: http://www.rubycusack.com/issue487.html In the publication “Obligation and Opportunity”- Single Maritime Women in Boston, 1870-1930 the author Betsy Beattie examines the lives of single Maritime women who left to work in Boston between 1870 and 1930, using oral interviews, diaries, letters, written recollections, census data, and other historical sources. In the 1880 census more than four thousand single women from the Maritime Provinces were living in Boston and in the 1910 census there were more than seven thousand single English-Canadian women living there. Attending church provided an opportunity for social life. Alice Peck of Nova Scotia met John Edgar McKay at the Adventist Church in Roxbury. But the 1901 marriage was short lived as John died four years later, leaving a young son. Maritime girls often went to the Boston area to take their training to be nurses. ... My grandfather's 2nd wife was probably one of those women, but her story was slightly different. She had left her New Brunswick husband and a young son there when she came to Boston. I don't remember the year at this moment, but it was probably 1910-1920. She remarried in Boston to Charles BEDELL and had 4 more children. They were divorced early on, and in early 1936 she was marrying my grandfather. He and his first wife, my grandmother, had divorced in 1935, but had probably separated in ~1933. .. And, on the Nova Scotia List 4-5 yrs. ago a long-time Lowell, MA, researcher posted a lot of information from the records of the Tewkbury State Hospital. She (the late researcher) got interested in all the women from N.S. who came down to Boston - and ended up in that Hospital. A good many of them were pregnant and came down to Boston to "find" the man who got her pregnant. Just an FYI for you. Betty (near Lowell, MA)
