    2. Betty,  I agree with you about NEHGS, I think more people would be inclined to join if they offered such a payment plan.  Maybe $10 per month for 8 months, or something that is reasonable for us poor folk!  I too am not able to join, but do enjoy the few times they have offered 'free' access for a weekend. So, if anyone is interested, I can provide more details. Plus, I have just found out this week what happened to John's father, Michael Albert FITZGERALD, born 1882 in Boston. After his divorce to Ella (BLAKLEY) maybe around 1915, he became estranged from her and their 2 sons. I cannot find him in census from 1920 on. But he might have lived in Boston with a new wife in 1930's or 1940's. After that, no one had information on Michael. Because it is a common name, I had trouble finding out which Michael was him. But I found out this week that Michael was the one who died in Bourne, MA, in 1971. I don't know how long he and his 2nd wife lived there. And, I found out that his 2nd wife was Mrs. Frances (DANE) FITZGERALD. She died in Bourne in 1999. I contacted the Bourne Library and they found her obituary but cannot find his. Even though Frances was about 30 yrs. younger than her husband, it appears that they did not have children. (on Lists for 10 yrs.; now an Admin for 9 Lists) (One FYI is that, so far, I don't know if the divorced lady, Mrs. Ella (BLAKELY) FITZGERALD, officially married her 2nd husband, Thomas "Jack" KELLEY. They were living together in 1920 in Cambridge, and had children together.) (Another FYI is that there seems to have been at least 3 FITZGERALD, extended families living in Downtown Boston in the very early 1900's. And they each lived in a different neighborhood, so they were probably not directly related. And, the above Fitzgerald's probably came from County Cork, and the "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald's came from County Limerick. I don't know which county the 3rd family came from.) I have 2 relatives, one born in 1950's and developed Epilepsy shortly after birth. I don't remember but I'm sure his doctors told his parents that he should be institutionalized. 10 yrs. later the other was born with Down's Syndrome. I do remember that her doctors did want her parents to institutionalize her. Even though the 1960's were ~45 yrs. ago, and it might seem a long time to some, it was not a long time ago for others! The relative with Grand Mal Epilepsy lived at home, and was over-drugged his entire childhood by a hospital in Boston. It wasn't till they moved away from Boston when he was in his late 20's that a new specialist took away all his prescriptions. He started him on a few, new meds, and the seizures stopped. The other relative lived at home and is now a "high-function, Down's adult" who is very active in her town. I would guess that throughout the mid-1600's and up into the mid-1900's anyone who was "different" or who acted "different" was considered "not worthy of living in a town." (Even women with "female problems." My great-great-grandmother was at Danvers State Hospital for a few years ~1880. She had recently given birth twice, and it's possible she had what we now call Post-Partum Depression.) (And there were diseases that .men. developed.) 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Paul Revere's father was a RIVOIRE (French) (DALLIN)
    2. Ms Betty Fredericks
    3. Hello,   In this morning's MassMoment's e-mail there is a story about Paul REVERE's statue.      One thing which is mentioned is that his father's name was:      Paul Revere was born in Boston in December 1734 to Apollos Rivoire, a French immigrant, and Deborah Hichborn. His father changed his name to Revere sometime before his son's birth. The elder Revere was a goldsmith, and Paul apprenticed with him. He was only 19 when his father died but already skilled enough working with metal to take over his father's shop two years later.   http://www.massmoments.org/moment.cfm?mid=275   And the sculptor, Cyrus DALLIN, is mentioned:     ...in 1940, a bronze statue of Paul Revere was unveiled in the shadow of the Old North Church. In the crowd of 8,000, stood the sculptor — 79-year-old Cyrus Dallin. He had waited 55 years since a committee had first selected his design to see his statue erected. Not surprisingly, the statue showed Revere astride a horse, as he was during his legendary ride. But Revere's accomplishments did not end with independence   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrus_Edwin_Dallin   Betty               (near Lowell, MA)

    2. Ms Betty Fredericks
    3. Hello,   I've been working on the FITZGERALD family-tree for 1 1/2 yrs. for family-friends.    I was able to get a good outline of their ancestors.     But, for the older generation, their estranged grandfather was a mystery.     Just this week I found him and his 2nd wife as living their last years in Bourne, MA.     I do not yet know how long they lived there, but they lived long lives.   Michael FITZGERALD, b1882 in Boston, had first married Ella BLAKELY of Medford, MA, and they had 2 sons.    But they seem to have separated  ~1915.    The 1920  census had Mrs. Ella FITZGERALD and her children in Cambridge and have "Jack" KELLEY living with them.     I do not know if they officially married,  but they had children together during the 1920's.   No one has been able to find Michael from 1920 on.     There was a possibility he lived in Boston for a few years.    He was definitely estranged from his family,  but his granddaughters had heard that he had married a much younger woman.     This week I have found out that his 2nd wife was Miss Frances DANE, b1913 in Malden.     And, she seems to be about 30 yrs. younger than her husband.      This morning I looked on-line  and found out that Frances had the parents:     Leonard J. DANE and Elizabeth LAXTON.      And, Leonard was from a Westford family and born ~1885.     (Elizabeth was probably from NH.)     The Westford Historical Society has information on this DANE family.   I looked on the  WorldConnect Project  and there is a researcher studying this family, and they have Leonard and Elizabeth having a son, Lewis DANE, born later.   I was wondering if anyone is researching this DANE family and might have further information on Mrs. Frances (DANE) FITZGERALD.     I'm curious whether she and Michael had children.      Yesterday I e-mailed the Bourne Public Library to ask if they could try to find the obituaries for the couple.   Betty         (near Lowell, MA)

    3. Michelle - The person you need to speak to is the Archives Manager, Robert Johnson-Lally. He can be reached at 617-746-5795. The archives were sometimes sent to neighboring churches. Mr. Johnson-Lally is a very pleasant person, but he is a one-man operation. He would prefer that you put things in writing to him. If he has the records, and you can be patient, he will most likely dig them out for you. If he does not have the records, has the records of where they were sent to, and how to contact those people. He spent a couple of hours about six months ago working with a group of amateur genealogists. He is all there is at the archdiocese in Boston. Be patient with him, he gets hundreds of requests. Give him all the information you have. Don't give him bits and pieces, give it all. Too much is far better for him to work with. 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Found the .missing. FITZGERALD Grandfather
    2. Ms Betty Fredericks
    3. Hello,   I'd just like to remind researchers that posting your queries on the Lists and Boards is almost always fruitful.    Over my past 10 yrs. on-line,  possible  2/3 of the information I've gathered on my family-tree came from responses to my queries.     And, it doesn't matter whether I posted a query 5 - 8 yrs. ago.     One of my phrases is:                        You can't hurry -  genealogy !   As most of you know,  about  1 1/2  years ago I started to attempt to create a family-tree for a close family.    A large FITZGERALD family, of 2 generations.     With the help of many others,  and a lot of on-line researching,   I was able to put together a good outline of the FITZGERALD line.      But, there was one couple who divorced early into their marriage,  and they have been a mystery for us - in several directions.      But, the bigger of the mysteries is that no one knew what happened to the grandfather of the older generation.     He was Michael Albert FITZGERALD, b1882 in Boston, and had parents, John and Catherine (SMITH) FITZGERALD of  "Haymarket Square" in Boston.     Unfortunately, they both died during 1890's and left 2 teen-age sons.   Michael married in Medford to Ella BLAKELY,  and they also had 2 sons.     But, it seems shortly after the sons were born, they separated and probably divorced.      The 1920 census has Ella and their 2 children living in Cambridge, and they had a boarder, Thomas "Jack" KELLEY, living with them.    It appears that "Jack" and Ella married, as they had several children.    And, up until their passing  in 1964 and 1974,  they were known to their family as Grampy and Grammy KELLEY    (Porter Square, Cambridge area).   But, no one in the family knew what happened to Michael FITZGERALD.     They had heard that he lived in Boston for a short time,  and had remarried to a younger woman.    And, that's all they knew.     Last year I tried to find information on him,  and there was one possibility that he died on Cape Cod.      But there were were too many  Michael's and John's to be able to identify which person that was.     Yesterday a very helpful researcher on the FITZGERALD List did a lot of look-ups for me,  and decided that the Michael who died on Cape Cod was probably the man we are looking for.      I took a chance yesterday morning and e-mailed the Town Clerk in Bourne, MA, to ask if they would look at the 1971 death-record for me.     I only asked for confirmation that the parents' names were the same names I had.    Yesterday afternoon the Clerk responsed and stated -  that was the missing grandfather !   So, I just e-mailed the Bourne Public Library to ask if they could try to find an obituary for him.     On the death-record, it stated that his wife was Mrs. Frances (DANE??) FITZGERALD, and she lived in Monument Beach.     That is a village within Bourne.    If she was the 2nd wife and she was younger,  then she might have passed during 1970's or 1980's.      By the way, Michael would have been close to 90 when he passed.   Betty               (near Lowell, MA)   (Michael's son,  John FITZGERALD, married Hazel OGDEN.     And, because of my postings,  I have found more descendants of the OGDEN family in Cambridge.)   (For new people on this List,  there are more details in the archives of this List.)
