Author: grignaffini Surnames: Callahan Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.unknown/7380/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I am searching for information on John Henry Callahan, who was born in Merrimac, Massachusetts 28 July 1881. He is listed in the Springfield City, Hampden Massachusetts 1900 census. His brother James Daniel Callahan was my great grandfather, who was killed in a railroad accident before my grandfather was born. He was born on 25 June 1889, in Springfield MA. The Callahans, made up of James Daniel, John Henry and their father John Callahan (born in Ireland I am told) lived in Springfield in 1900. I am trying to get any info on my family as I can, and have hit several dead ends. If anyone knows of a John Henry Callahan, I figure I can tie up loose ends. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Message Board for New England research ?
    2. Ms Betty Fredericks
    3. Hello,   Early this morning I wondered whether there was a Message Board which was for  New England research, in general.     I just went and searched for a Board which is about .New England,  and only came up with 2.    One is this one,  which is for discussing the  New England Historic Genealogical Society.     I didn't realize that existed.   http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.organizations.nehgs/mb.ashx   I didn't realize the other one existed, either.     It is for discussing the Native Americans in New England.   http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.ethnic.natam.intertribal.newengland/mb.ashx   If you search for a Mailing List for New England,  you will find many of them, including:   http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/usa/misc/misc.html#NEW-ENG-GEN   http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Ethnic-Native/NEW-ENG-NATAM.html   http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/surname/n/new-england-irish.html#NEW-ENGLAND-IRISH   www.rootsweb.com   And, something mentioned in the description of the  New-Eng-Gen  List is a reminder to go to:   http://www.usgenweb.org/   ...    I have found out that it is a little harder to start up a new Message Board,  than for starting up a new Mailing List.      But, I wonder if other researchers think that a Board for - New England research, in general,  would benefit us.           (I do know that there are many researchers on-line who do not like to participate on the Mailing Lists,  so only participate on the Message Boards.)   Betty             (near Lowell, MA)   (on Lists for 10 yrs.;   now an Admin for 9 Lists,  and 2 Boards, including ones for  New-England-Memories and NewEngland-Societies, and I suggested one for New England Railroads)     (The 2 Boards I started up were to go along with my List for  CAN-USA-Migration)

I spoke with the elderly man again, his father did have a brother named Nicholas, I found them together in the 1920 census, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. His real name was Arghelios, and variations of that, finally settling on Jerry, I know it's a stretch. Anyway, he was married in 1925, to a woman named Katherine Diamond, also from Greece. I found her name listed as Kalliopi Diamantopoulou in the Ellis Island records. So by 1930 they should be somewhere in Massachusetts, and possibly have at least one child. Thanks you again, Barbara ps, the person soliciting did contact me off list, but I have never had this experience before. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janet Lyman" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, November 10, 2011 10:49:59 AM Subject: RE: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] 1930 census look up please Barbara, Do you know the approximate year he was born? I have since been told that the registry of vital records hold all the marriage records for 1922-1923 but they are not on line, so hence need someone who could go in and have a look for me. Thanks very much for trying though I appreciate anyone helping out. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] 1930 census look up please
    2. Hello again, and thanks for all your help, unfortunately, the info that I have been sent isn't the correct person. I know he was a shoe polisher, because his son (who is in his 80's now) told me that he started a shoe shine business when he came to Boston. I also cant' find him in Ellis Island records, but can't find any free records for Boston passengers. Does anyone know where I can look for that? 1. [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Advice on vital records
    2. Gill Walmsley
    3. Hi there   I'm hoping someone can provide me with some advice on obtaining vital records in Massachusetts. I'm from London, England and trying to find the death certificate of my great great grandmother. I don't have an exact death date for her, but the last trace of her I have is on the 1920 census, so I believe it would have been between 1920-1930.   I've tried emailing the Massachusetts Archives several times to ask how to search for this, but I've never had a response. I'm happy to pay someone to search for me, that's not the issue. I also can't seem to access the Massachusetts Archives website from over here in the UK (it won't load - have tried from several different locations!). Is there anyone that can advise me on where to ask or how to find this record?   Many thanks for any help!   Gill Walmsley
