THOMPSON. THOMPSON is a popular name, and there were a half-dozen Charles' in 1870 in Suffolk Co. But, when I read your post, you mentioned Charlestown. I just checked to find out when Charlestown left Middlesex Co. and became part of Suffolk Co., and it was after 1870. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlestown,_Boston I couldn't find the correct Charles in 1870 in Suffolk Co., but this might be the correct one in Middlesex Co. No other information is mentioned for him. If he was 21, he might have been born ~1848/50. I'm not spotting him in 1860 as a youngster. THOMPSON, CHARLES H (1870 U.S. Census) MASSACHUSETTS , MIDDLESEX, 1-WD CHARLESTOWN Age: 21, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: MA Series: M593 Roll: 625 Page: 82 There are at least 8-10 pages of "laborers" at the State Prison in 1870. It might be a guess as to where Charles H. THOMPSON was in 1880. Still in prison? Or, out and living in some city at Age 31. At www.familysearch.org there are many Charles H. THOMPSON's mentioned, including one who fought from MA in the Civil War. Possibly very young men in the Civil War became alcoholics. Betty (near Lowell, MA) P.S. I wonder how many State Prisons there were in MA in 1870. FYI: While I was looking for that Charles THOMPSON, I came across at least 8-10 pages of "sailors" in Suffolk Co., supposedly in a Boarding House. The majority were from England, Ireland, Scotland, etc. This was 1870. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. And, a little over a year ago I started up a Msg. Board to go along with it. The Help Desk decided to start 2 Boards for it, CAN/USA and USA/CAN. They are found under the Immigration and Emigration category. www.rootsweb.com Also, have you checked out Census information for the couple, yet? Many can check 1900, 1910, and 1920, and some can check 1930. And there is a lot more information at www.familysearch.org including the 1930 census. Looks like Henry/John Randolph died between 1851 and 1861 census.   In the 1871 UK census there are several James RANDELL/RENDALL at Wiltshire ~ James Randolph was married by this time. Plus a William RANDALL....This seems to fit with the alias in the prison records for Cornelius???   With a bit of luck hunting down info on Cornelius Randolph's siblings, James and William, you might find further info on the parents ~ especially as they seem to have remained in Wiltshire England. I note that James Randolph's eldest son was named "John" ~ possibly after his father who was deceased.   Janice       --- On Sat, 31/12/11, Tony Cocks <[email protected]> wrote: From: Tony Cocks <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Cornelius RANDOLPH, Born c1834, Wiltshire, England To: "theclown16" <[email protected]> Cc: "Peter Lodge" <[email protected]>, "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Date: Saturday, 31, December, 2011, 8:18 AM Hello,   No problems with access to the criminal records........they form part of my Ancestry package.   Thank you for the offer.   Happy New Year.   Tony Cocks From: theclown16 <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Cc: Peter Lodge <[email protected]>; [email protected] Sent: Friday, 30 December 2011, 15:34 Subject: Re: [GENMASSACHUSETTS] Cornelius RANDOLPH, Born c1834, Wiltshire, England I agree with the analysis. Also Corneillous in name shows up rarely so circumstantially he is the son of Henry and Amelia if not only as the son indicated in the 1841 census. aged 7 closer to the date of Christening. The Criminal records in one case indicate he was listed with alias Randell. to Complicate research. Do you have the Criminal Records available online at Ancestry.com ? theclown16
