    1. Abbreviation "Jno."
    2. John Malone
    3. Hi All, Can anyone tell me what name the abbreviation "Jno." stands for? It seems to be fairly common in records. I have a man whose name appears as "Jno" or "Jnt" or "Jny" in the Kildare parish baptisimal record entries for his various children. Yet according to records in the FamilySearch.org IGI data for his daughters' marriages, his name was Jeremiah. How could Jno be short for Jeremiah?? John

The IGI is not wholly reliable, esp if the entry is a patron submission.
