    3. Most normally is abbreviation for : "Jonathan" Paul -----Original Message----- From: John Malone [mailto:jjmalone@eircom.net] Sent: 09 January 2006 09:10 To: GENIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Abbreviation "Jno." Hi All, Can anyone tell me what name the abbreviation "Jno." stands for? It seems to be fairly common in records. I have a man whose name appears as "Jno" or "Jnt" or "Jny" in the Kildare parish baptisimal record entries for his various children. Yet according to records in the FamilySearch.org IGI data for his daughters' marriages, his name was Jeremiah. How could Jno be short for Jeremiah?? John -- No virus found in this incoming message. 3. By the same token, how do you get JOHN from JNO?? Your logic would say that John - should it even need abbreviating - would be Jhn or Joh............. Still believe that it is as I said.... -----Original Message----- From: joe2phil@drizzle.com [mailto:joe2phil@drizzle.com] Sent: 09 January 2006 15:34 To: GENIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Abbreviation "Jno."
