From The Cork Examiner, 18 May 1864 - ATTEMPT TO UPSET A TRAIN.--On Saturday last, at Nottingham, a young man named George Hardy was charged before the sitting magistrates with attempting to upset a railway train on the Midland line near Kegworth on the 4th inst. The prisoner was seen to place some bricks, oak keys, &c., on the down line of the railway about 20 minutes before the express train was due from London.
