    3. Transcribed from the 21 May 1822 edition of The Strabane Morning Post, by permission of The British Library: The London subscription for the relief of the starving Irish, swells with rapidity beyond all precedent. It now exceeds 20,000l. [£20,000]. There has been a letter from Sir E. O'Brien, in which he states that a London Merchant, who will not suffer his name to be mentioned, has given an entire cargo of meal and rice for the use of Clare. In the principal towns of England and Wales, subscriptions have been opened. The following sums have been already remitted to Ireland:--To Clare, 1000l. [£1000]; Limerick, 500l. [£500]; Galway, 500l. [£500]; Kerry, 500l. [£500]; Skibbereen, 100l. [£100]. [...] The exertions making by Government for the relief of the distressed districts have been unceasing and efficacious. They have contracted at Leith for one thousand tons of potatoes, which have been shipped for this country, and which will be delivered at those ports in the South of Ireland, where scarcity is most prevalent. ========================
