Thanks very much Dennis These references are so informative and interesting as well as providing a "window" which I can peep through to learn of the past. I'm just in the process of looking through the 145 hits but have just had a thought! Perhaps if I think in "reverse" I might have more success. Do you know where records of people signing on (military or naval recruits) are kept (ie for the years 1845-50) - would it be Dublin? I really appreciate your help, thanks again.
