Hoping someone can point me towards the correct history society covering this place. There are so many irish history societys and many cover overlapping areas so I am hoping that someone can help. I have an ancestor reputedly born in this street in 1817 with the very common surname 'McCarthy/McCartnie' so I am hoping that there is a group out there that I can contact to research this matter further. I am hoping that there may be land or tenant records for the area or (I can only hope) death records of other family members citing this address, perhaps a christening or marriage of the parents. The lass in question used the given name of Margaret and surname McCarthy and I have been able to verify through her death record a brother called Denis(sic). Realistically any information that can help prove (or disprove) her as being from the above address would be welcome.

The only McCarthys listed in Dominick Street in Jackson's 1842-3 Postal Directory for Cork City is Denis McCarthy & Co., butter merchants, at number 27. -dja
