Let us assume that a family decided to move from County Mayo to County Queens in the year 1815, would they be able to relocate without any legal constraints or would they have to notify the local authorities about their relocation intentions? This question takes into consideration the right of mobility; it also takes into consideration the practicality of keeping track of where people people are living at any given time. I am interested in finding out if there are any directories, registries, or ledgers available that kept track of the movement of Irish residents from one county to another during the early 1800s. It would seem that by the mid 1800s, the task of keeping track of Irish mobility would have been an overwhelming task when one considers the great numbers of persons, who abandoned the places that were most impacted by the Great Famine and moved elsewhere throughout the world.
