Transcribed from the 23 March 1847 edition of The Armagh Guardian newspaper, by permission of The British Library: Pensioners for New Zealand.--The first division of this force, consisting of mechanics, will leave England, for New Zealand, in the first week of April next. This district, which comprises Belfast, Carrickfergus, Lisburn, and Newtownards, has only furnished four volunteers. Mechanics are sending out first, for the purpose of erecting cottages, &c. We understand, that it is contemplated, at head-quarters, to have pensioners spread over the entire of our colonies in time. The Short Enlistment Bill is the first step of this grand scheme.--Whig. ========================
