    2. John Carey
    3. Hi Ed and Veronica, Thanks for the prompt replies. The TRACEYs/CAREYs that I am researching are shown in the Griffiths Valuation as living in Ballynough, just a few miles east of Shanballyanagh/Couraganeen. I do not have direct evidence that they are "mine" but the circumstantial evidence is very strong. Mine emigrated to Niagara County, NY in 1863. The KILMARTIN reference may mean that there is more than a "neighbors" connection. Are either of you tracing/in contact with any SHEEDYs in County Tipperary? 1. Ages in marriage
    2. Joseph F Sandra Blanz
    3. In several of the Irish newspaper of old, I find where "old" people married very young people. Example, women 100 who had had 8 prior husbands married a young man in his mid 20's, in another a man 70 years old married a girl 11 years and 1 month. Would these be typo's or for real? I can't imagine this myself, however.... Sandy

Just have a look at the pages & photos linked to this website. There might well be details besides these (e.g. what exactly did PJH do at Tallinn or info on PJHs wife)

    2. Ed Madden
    3. Hi John, We're "neighbors", my Madden's are also from Couraganeen! I've made 3 trips there and here are some Tracey names I've run across that I hope will be of some help. I've not yet been able to establish a link to Bridget MADDEN, wife of John TRACEY however. 1. 1829, May. James TRACY of Shanballyanagh listed in the Tithe Applotment 2. 1846, 20-Sep. Anne KILMARTIN's birth is recorded in the Couraganeen Parish Register (National Library Ireland, POS 2478). Her father is listed as Anthony KILMARTIN and her mother is listed as "Ar... Treacy"? Sponsors of the newborn Anne are "New" MADDEN and Judy RIORDAN. (NOTE- the hand writing was horrible!) 3. 1851. James Tracey of Shanballyanagh is listed in Griffiths Valuation 4. 1862, 13-Jul. "Jeremauh" Treacy is listed in the Couraganeen Parish Register (National Library Ireland, POS 2478) as a baptism sponsor of Bridget SHEEDY. 5. 1879? Possible marriage year for John TRACEY and Bridget MADDEN based on their daughter's (Katie) 11 Dec 1880 birth registration 6. 1880, 11-Dec. Katie TRACEY is born. Her father is John TRACEY and mother is Bridget MADDEN. Residence is "Summer Hill, Roscrea" and the name of the person who reported the birth is Elizabeth BANNON, she seems to be a midwife. -----Original Message----- From: cotipperary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cotipperary-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of John Carey Sent: Saturday, December 05, 2009 7:46 PM To: Rootsweb COTIPPERARY; Rootsweb GENIRE Subject: [COTIPPERARY] (no subject) I am researching the Tracey/Tracy FAMILIES of Bourney(Cournaganeen).... 2. I am researching the Tracey/Tracy FAMILIES of Bourney(Cournaganeen). I have had some limited success using the Irish Family History Foundation data base (brsgenealogy.com) but it is an expensive way to go. Short of travelling to Ireland to use the National Library in Dublin or the Heritage Center in Nenagh, is there an online resource, LDS fiche or stateside library that would have these records available? 1. Family migrations from one county to another
    2. lunar2
    3. Let us assume that a family decided to move from County Mayo to County Queens in the year 1815, would they be able to relocate without any legal constraints or would they have to notify the local authorities about their relocation intentions? This question takes into consideration the right of mobility; it also takes into consideration the practicality of keeping track of where people people are living at any given time. I am interested in finding out if there are any directories, registries, or ledgers available that kept track of the movement of Irish residents from one county to another during the early 1800s. It would seem that by the mid 1800s, the task of keeping track of Irish mobility would have been an overwhelming task when one considers the great numbers of persons, who abandoned the places that were most impacted by the Great Famine and moved elsewhere throughout the world.

    3. Looking for: I know both Adolphe Regis Guttin and a priest, Father Granottier went back and forth to France -- perhaps fairly often so a number of ships are going to be involved. However I am trying to find the first trip that my grandfather came over to Canada and established himself as a tailor in Owen Sound, Ontario. Likely around 1870 or before. I know I saw F. X. Granottier listed several times as a passenger on Ancestry at the library. But can't ever find Adolphe Regis Guttin' trips. He likely went to Europe (I bet just France) for fabrics, for instance. It would be nice to know the ship and the first time, if possible.
