Hi, I was cleaning out an old car for sale and came across a photograph album which has a load of old photographs. The album is in bad condition but the photographs are mostly ok. The car originally came from County Cork. A few photographs have writing on the back of them. This is whats on them. The first photograph is a wedding, and on the back is written, Mrs J. Ahern 8 Bishop Street, Cork. Next one is 3 men in a boat and on the back is C/O of Pearce, 3 Reynolds ?. St. ?. Davenport. Next one has "Taken in Dublin at the Congress 1932." Next one which looks like 5 nurses has on the back "What do you think of me mother, Love Flo." 5/3/1938 Willie and Flo taken on holiday in Dublin 10th August 1936 Two army guys with "Love to Flo from Jackie" on the back of it Another one of 3 men and on the back "Panama Canal 1928". Another one with "Taken on a picnic in June 1930". And the last one with writing on it has a picture of a woman with three little boys, and written on that is "Kitty, Baby Jim, Bobo O'Brien and Bill Horgan". There are lots more photograph's including a first communion photo of a little girl, taken I would imagine in the 1930's. I have no interest in this Album but would like to return it to its tightful owner. I also don't now if this is the right place to post this. if not could someone let me know. You can fool yourself that you deal in historical fact, do not believe in myth, are a voice of reason, etc but it is plain to see that you have been presented with an uncomfortable truth and that it has hurt you. In reponse you have retreated into further myth, that someone who does not buy into the British national myth as regards Ireland is racist, cowardly, etc. I suppose I am lucky, a century ago I would have acquired monkey-like features at this stage. -- SIABAIR (Old Irish) /shabba/ 'ghost', 'phantom', 'spectre'

From The Limerick Evening Post, 6 November 1817 - SHOCKING DEATH OF A POOR SWEEP CORONER'S INQUEST.--On Thursday se'nnight, at eight o'clock, an inquisition was held at the Lord Somer's Arms, corner of Grenville street and Union street, Somer's Town, before Thomas Stirling, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Robert Dowland, a poor little orphan sweep, aged eleven years, apprentice to Hall, a night man and chimney sweep, residing in St. Pancras, whose death was caused by suffocation in the flue of a chimney. Mrs. Ann Bishop said she was the wife of Alexander Bishop, a baker, and lived at No 10, Union street, Somer's Town ; she frequently saw the deceased, he being in the habit of buying rolls at her shop ; he was a sweep. On last Wednesday morning, the deceased and two other little sweeps, accompanied by their master, came to her for the purpose of sweeping their chimneys ; the deceased's master ordered him to go up and sweep a chimney, which was over a new oven that had been lately built. The deceased went up according to his master's orders ; he went up to the top . . . he came down again without receiving much injury, except a slight burn or graze on his left arm . . . he cried and said "that something had burned his arm and it pained him very much." He was then sent up to the flue of the old oven . . . he remained about an hour in the flue after he went up, although he was only about a quarter of an hour in the new flue. Witness not seeing the deceased come down, she asked his master if there was any fear? The master answered "No, there was no danger, he was only taking a nap," the fire had been out for four hours before the deceased came to sweep it. When the deceased was in the chimney crying, his master knew the part of it he was in, as he pointed out the place to them ; another boy was then sent up after the deceased, whom he found in the slant of the chimney where there was a deal of soot ; . . . the flue in the shop was then opened and the deceased was taken out thickly covered with soot, so that they had much difficulty in taking it off with their hands ; the deceased was carried into the garden for air, and a surgeon was sent for, who came and rubbed him with some sort of spirits, but the deceased never spoke nor moved after ; when the deceased first came down the funnel of the new oven, his master told him he ought to have a good thrashing for stopping to loaf. When the deceased came down there were some potatoes baking in the oven at the time the deceased was up the flue . . . The jury after a few minutes consideration returned the verdict--Died by suffocation through the culpable neglect of Hall, the master. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Is anyone researching the CRUISE family from Tullamore, Offaly? Jane in Cooksville (Mississauga) Ontario, Canada
While searching the Roman Catholic parish records for Dunmanway, in the diocese of Cork & Ross, county Cork, Ireland, I came across the following baptism. I am not researching Cunninghams, but I was moved to copy this down. "1827 Jany 14, Johanna of Johanna Cunningham. This woman being both deaf and dumb and not married, could not account for the father of the child." -dja

Don't forget the all the poor souls on Rathlin Island (off the Antrim coast) Essex massacred before he left Ireland. Beannachtai aguas Síocháin, Margaret (Máiread) So deal with this historical fact. From The Cork Constitution, 22 November 1886 - A NEST OF JUVENILE THIEVES BROKEN UP.--For some time past various larcenies have been committed in and round Castletown Bere. On Thursday night the shop of Mr. Denis D. O'Shea was entered and some groceries taken therefrom. Constables Ward and Willis got on the track, and they unearthed in an old unoccupied house three young lads who were put forward in custody, at Saturday's petty sessions before Messrs. E. B. Warburton, R.M. ; D. J. Lyne, and D. V. Hancock. Their names are James Cronin, Timothy Sullivan, and James Sullivan. Some of the missing articles were found in their possession. James Sullivan was discharged and Timothy Sullivan and James Cronin were sentenced to one month's imprisonment each. Sullivan's father asked to have the term of imprisonment increased to give him the right of appeal. This was acceded to and the young fellow was sentenced to two months, and bail for his appearance at the quarter sessions accepted. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening (depending on where you are); I'm looking for a researcher in Ireland or England who can dig up some information on John Fitzsimmons and his wife w/ a maiden name name of Habben living in Presbyterian, Killyleagh, Down, Ireland in 1859 when their son, Thomas, was born. I'm trying to find Mrs Fitzsimmons full name, a marriage certificate, birth certificates (of all 3 individuals) and death certificates of the two parents. If anyone out there can do this research or know of someone who can, please let me know. Thank you, Marc Fitzsimmons
From The Cork Examiner, 17 August 1878 - QUEENSTOWN PETTY SESSIONS.--At those sessions, held yesterday, before Messrs. W. E. Gumbleton (chairman), J. N. Beamish, W. D. Seymour, and W. R. Starkie, R.M. Messrs. Terry & Company were prosecuted at the instance of the Queenstown Town Commissioners, for having placed a quantity of timber on the pathway near the approach to the Admiralty Pier, for the purpose of disposing of same by auction on that day (Thursday), at one o'clock. Mr. Michael Terry represented the firm. Constable Haren proved the obstruction. The defendants were fined 5s. and costs. A labourer named Michael Shea appeared in the dock with his face and nose all cuts and bruises, inflicted on him in various fights during the Queenstown regatta of Thursday. He was charged with fighting and eating the lower lip off a man named Michael Ahern, about six o'clock on the hill on Thursday evening. The wound, described by Dr. E. T. Bricknell, is about one inch long and one inch wide, which he had to stitch and draw together with sticking plaster. The portion of the lip was produced in court by a young man named Forrest, and, no doubt, he would have been choked only for his timely interference. The following information in the case was sworn by Mr. Martin Forrest, of Queenstown, victualler--On the 15th inst., at Queenstown, Michael Ahern passed along by Clifton Place, and Michael Shea challenged Michael Ahern to fight and sparred opposite him. Jeremiah Murphy, who was present, told Shea to strike Ahern. Shea then struck Ahern on the side of the head with his fist, and after which Shea clung in Ahern and knocked him down, and lay on him, pulled his hair and squeezed his throat. While Shea was lying on Ahern he (Shea) repeatedly bit Ahern's lip. To prevent Shea from chewing the lip off Ahern, he caught Shea round the throat, when he let Ahern go and got up, Shea spat a portion of Ahern's lip out of his mouth, I picked the part of the lip up, and have it in court, now. Both Shea and Ahern had drink taken. In my presence Ahern did or said nothing to provoke Shea. A man-of-war sailor named Edward Driscoll corroborated the evidence of Forrest. Their worships, after stigmatizing in strong terms, the brutality of the cannibal, remanded him until Ahern, who is in a very precarious state, recovers. Later in the day Mr. Starkie, R.M., visited the house of Ahern, and took his deposition.--Adjourned. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I believe I have just found my GG Grandparents. John Fitzsimmons and a woman with what I believe is her maiden name of Habben living in Presbyterian, Killyleagh, Down, Ireland, at least in 1859 when their son, Thomas Fitzsimmons (my G Grandfather) was born. Wondering if there is someone out there w/ a similar set of relatives or could tell me where I could look this up..
