    3. I am presently researching my family tree and trying to confirm and obtain additional information. The family book indicates James Patrick Hayes born March 17 1800 in Dharwar India. Married Elizabeth Fermier, the daughter of John Fermier and Jane MacKay. The family book does not have JPH parent's listed and I would like to obtain the names of his mother and father to continue my research. The family stories indicate my ancestor's moved from County Cork, Ireland. A black and white picture of my Great Great Grandfather with his family, all appear to be wearing a County Cork Tartan. However, not sure and would like to confirm which ancestor and when they moved to India. Additional family data: (all born in Southern India) James William Hayes Snr - b. Sep 03 1823 James William Hayes Jnr - b. May 04 1845 Francis Richmond Hayes - b. June 10 1852 Ernest Richmond Corbett Hayes - b. May 14 1879 Sincerely, Gary Hayes Canada

That all depends on whether his father owned the land, whether he left a will and whether other of his family survives. Current ownership can be established by ordering a search at the Land Registry in Dublin. Wills from within the last few decades can be searched at one or other of the local courthouses and if you find one contact the executor of the estate to make your claim (if any) under the will. If there is no will then search for letters of administration at the same place and contact the administrator of the estate to make your claim as a close relative. 1. Griffiths Valuation for Co. Leix- what years?
    2. Ian Loiterton
    3. I am aware that Griffiths Valuation was conducted between 1848 and 1864. One reference suggested that it was conducted for Co. Leix between 1851 and 1852 while another said between 1858 and 1860. Can anyone verify which of these is correct as it makes a significant difference to identifying two people included in it for the town of Abbeyleix. 3. From The Cork Examiner, 28 June 1878 - A MONSTER FISH.--A few days ago while Mr. Timothy Harrington, Causkey, and his crew were sailing in the neighbourhood of Cod Head they espied what proved to be a fish of enormous size basking in the sun on the surface of the water. They approached and succeeded in casting a powerful grappling iron into the monster's capacious mouth, which was wide open. They then succeeded in dragging the fish to the nearest shore, although at first the fish dragged them more than was safe in such contested ground. The weight of this monster of [the] deep was fully two tons. The master, Mr. Timothy Harrington, Knuckane, of this parish, is unable to call the fish by any particular name.--Eyeries correspondent. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    3. Hello, I write from upstate New York and plan to again visit Ireland with my father. My father, Walter Cronin, age 95, is an Irish Citizen thru his parents who were both born in County Kerry. Walter is interested in claiming his father's land in Kerry. I too have my Irish citizenship and will be visiting Ireland with him. Can you please tell me what my father has to do to stake the claim on his father's land? The land is vacant upon our last visit to the homestead. We plan to go to Ireland in the fall. Thank you and I await your reply. Ann Cronin Miller

Does anyone know if the following are related: * John, US Rev War General * William, Colonial SC justice * Amy (?), sister in law of Napoleon * Charles, TR's attorney general The first three were coeval. They inhabited the NY-Baltimore region. It's a fairly common surname, but they spell it identically. I've seen a website saying Charles was a descendent of the Emperor. William I've read was born Co. Antrim, Ire.
