I wonder if any lister can advise the provisions of Irish Republic divorce law in the years 1920-1930. What were the terms on which a divorce could be granted then? Where would the files be held now? Thanks.

Thanks Pam A good starting point, if you haven't done so already, would be to look for her civil record of birth. Once you have that, look for a baptism, a marriage, births of siblings, Griffith's Valuation, etc. http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy/birthsmarrdeaths.html Records of Irish Births, Marriages, and Deaths http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/search/rg/guide/ all_t3_resmeth_-_how_do_i_begin.asp [cut and paste to one url] How to use LDS Family History Centers http://www.genfindit.com/ibirths.htm LDS Film Numbers for Index to Irish civil birth records http://www.genfindit.com/imarrs.htm LDS Film Numbers for Index to Irish civil marriage records http://www.genfindit.com/ideaths.htm LDS Film Numbers for Index to Irish civil death records http://www.genfindit.com Online Irish Vital Records Ordering Service http://www.geocities.com/stassam.geo/dublin.html Lookup Service for Records in Dublin http://homepage.eircom.net/~seanjmurphy/gro/ Guide to the General Register Office http://www.rootsweb.com/~fianna/county/ldspars.html LDS Film Numbers for Irish Parish Registers http://www.nli.ie/pdfs/famil2.pdf Parish Registers at National Library of Ireland http://homepage.eircom.net/~ifhs/IFHSpub5.htm Directory of Parish Registers Indexed in Ireland published by the Irish Family History Society http://www.groireland.ie/ General Register Office (Republic of Ireland) Births, Marriages and Deaths for 32 counties 1864-1922 Republic of Ireland only 1922-present

G'day Thanks for the information. However I am pleased to say that I have had a person volunteer to get a few photos for me next time they are in Cobh. I have a 2nd cousin who was married in Dublin 1Mar 1920. the details are as follows: Bessie Florence Swetland to Denis Joseph McKenna. I have searched the indexes for 1920 at our local FHC in Ottawa but had no luck in finding same. Any suggestions please. Thanks Bill Shurben
Drumkeeran used to be (about 15 miles at a guess) North of Fermanagh, just above Kesh on the map. Possibly born in Enniskillen and moved north when married . Wouldn't one of your husbands parents know where his or her mother was born ? Sorry I can't be of more help. Mary

There is a medium-sized townland of Inisclin in Drumkeeran civil parish, Co. Fermanagh. I have only a sadly-deficient Northern Ireland Discoverer map 17 for this part of Ireland and - not surprisingly - townlands were not a priority item when the maps were issued. So Inisclin is not shown on the map. However I'm reasonably sure it's right next to an "Inisclin Bridge", close to the Donegal border, about 5 miles NW of Kesh town. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts
Hi to other newsgroup users, I have just been given a piece of paper with my husband's grandmother's place of birth as Iniscilan. Do you think, well anyone who is familiar with Ireland, that it might be Enniskillen or would there be a place 'Iniscilan'. It sounds the same by my pronunciation but it may be different with the correct pronunciation. I had her listed as being born in Drumkerin Fermanagh North Ireland (this is what was on the shipping manifest), so now I am very puzzled. Secondly you will not get any further help with your post until you tell the group what time period you are looking at as you could be any age from 12 to 85 for all we know. Have you looked at the Scotlandspeople site, if not it would pay you to do a free search, then pay for what records that are there for you failing that get a professional researcher.
