Is there any easy way of searching Cork deaths for say 1862/1863??
A very Merry Christmas from the right coast of the US of A. from a little town just outside the city of Brotherly Love. And may all good things come to you in the coming year.....like finding that illusive long lost ancestor. Jeanne

Fee to search the indexes over 5 year period increases slightly by 10cent to 2euro. Fee per photocopy where the relevant index reference numbers are supplied by the applicant more than double to 4euro. And more.... See: http://www.groireland.ie/fees.htm The service itself has not been upgraded to match the fees. Brian
Hi to all: Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy 2006. Slainte, Peg

I received three certificates which were the wrong family even though I had put the fathers name. I phoned (from Canada) to explain the problem. The lady wasn't at her desk, but called me back to tell me that I needed the mother's maiden name, which I had but with 5 different spellings. The lady said that if I returned the incorrect certificates she would search all the birth and death records looking for the right parents and subsequently sent me certificates for names I didn't even have. And she phoned me a second time to confirm what she had done. (Perhaps that's why the fees have gone up :-).) However, I'm glad I ordered the photocopies when I did so I only paid the lower fee, but the service was great. Malvary in Ottawa

I read "severe wettings" to suggest he was caught out in the rain and caught pneumonia from having been soaked to the skin. I do find it curious, however, that a 17-year old male is being educated by nuns. -dja
According to FTM CD 188, the Griffith Valuation of 1848 - 1864 lists a HUGH SLOWEY on William St, Tn of Portadown, Tavaneigh, and an ELIZABETH DAVIDSON on Marley St., Tn of Portadown, Corcrain. It is possible that these are two of my great-great grandparents. HUGH SLOWEY and his wife might be the parents of JOHN J. SLOWEY, my great-grandfather, and ELIZABETH (CLINE?)DAVIDSON AND JOHN DAVIDSON (perhaps deceased in '48-'64)producing ELIZABETH DAVIDSON, my great-grandmother. From JOHN J. SLOWEY and ELIZABETH DAVIDSON came my grandmother, MARY JOSEPHINE SLOWEY. If anyone has information on the children of either HUGH SLOWEY OR ELIZABETH DAVIDSON I sure would like to from you! I have looked through the usual public sources and found absolutely nothing. Also, if anyone knows, other than the years what is the difference between the GV of 1839 and the GV of 1848 - 1864??? Any other information about HUGH SLOWEY and/or ELIZABETH DAVIDSON would be immensely appreciated. Thanks for your help.
A friend who lives in the UK shared this information with me. I am hoping someone on this List might have further information concerning Arklow Parish in County Wicklow and if more records are available to search. There are Bolger gravestones in the old Mullinavat graveyard next to our Grant family headstones. The earliest death recorded on our stones was Bart Grant who was born around 1720. This graveyard is located in the civil parish of Kilbeacon just north of Walsh's pub off the main Kilkenny-Waterford road. Check out a Griffith's Index and see if you can find any of the first names used by your family among these Bolgers. I believe the Mullinavat baptismal records start at 1858. Before that the area belonged to a larger Kilmacow parish that should have good records going back to 1842 .
