    1. Canonical Age for Ordination
    2. John P. DuLong
    3. Does anyone on this forum know what the canonical age for ordination as a deacon and a priest would be for someone in the Anglican Church of Ireland in the seventeenth century? My wife's ancestor, the Most Rev. Dr. John Vesey, Archbishop of Tuam (1738-1716), was ordained deacon and priest before he reached the canonical age. I am trying to figure out when this would be. I find hints using Google that it was 23, but I would like to see a more solid reference for this fact. Your assistance is appreciated, thank you. JP

The word means Cove, and is pronounced like it too I think. Originally it was known as the Cove of Cork, then Queenstown, and later Cobh. There are several O'Callaghans in the Cobh phone book, but only one Callahan, and he is originally from Dublin! The Welsh spelling of my first name is not really meaningful, i.e. I'm not Welsh in any way. My parents liked holidaying in Wales and they thought it was more logical than Alan, and didn't know that it should be pronounced as if the u were an i!

    3. From The Cork Examiner, 7 February 1865 - RECORDER'S COURT--THIS DAY. ------------ Martin v. Sexton. This was an action for the recovery of rent. The plaintiff had let a house to a Miss Lyons, in Old George's-street, on the recommendation of Mr. John Sexton. She did not pay the rent, and the action was brought by Mr. Martin against Mr. Sexton for the amount of the rent, the defendant having become responsible for its payment. The jury decided in favour of plaintiff. Mr. Blake appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. O'Halloran for defendant. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    3. Greetings to all listers from a first-timer to this newsletter. I'm seeking any help in locating the birthplace of my mother's grandfather, John Francis O'Donnell, born 25 Dec 1936 in Donegal. When he married in Walla Walla, Washington, USA, he gave his parents as Samuel O'Donnell and Margaret O'Flaherty. [father possibly Samuel James, or James Samuel, b. abt. 1800] The only clue I have as to particular parish in Donegal is data for John's cousin, Margaret McCool (daughter of Robert and Margaret McCool nee O'Donnell) born in Donaghmore, Co. Donegal, 12 Aug 1852. The McCool's as well as John Francis O'Donnell, his brothers James and Barney O'Donnell as well as a sister, Elizabeth and other relatives, immigrated to the USA and were some of the earliest residents of Walla Walla, Washington. Any help much appreciated. Lynda Tataryn
