A more distressing or disgraceful case, perhaps, never came before a Court of Justice, than did this day in this Court--a father obliged to proclaim his own disgrace and his daughter's shame! Rebecca Smyth, a young woman, aged about 20 years, was put to the bar, having been presented by the Grand Jury as an idle, disorderly, and dissolute person, and having no visible means of livelihood. . . . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dennis Ahern | Ireland Newspaper Abstracts Acton, Massachusetts | http://www.IrelandOldNews.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hi All, Can anyone tell me what name the abbreviation "Jno." stands for? It seems to be fairly common in records. I have a man whose name appears as "Jno" or "Jnt" or "Jny" in the Kildare parish baptisimal record entries for his various children. Yet according to records in the FamilySearch.org IGI data for his daughters' marriages, his name was Jeremiah. How could Jno be short for Jeremiah?? John -- No virus found in this incoming message. 3. Hello Gang, I am looking to knock down some brick walls. My 3rd GGF Thomas Kenefick appears to have never left Ireland. He married Bridget (Toomey) Or Twomey. Our best gestimate to DOB for these two is before 1810. They had 5 children that we can document. Patrick Kenefick DOB Bet. January - February 1830, Honora Kenefick Abt. April 1834, John Kenefick June 24, 1836, Thomas Kenefick Abt. October 1842 and Andrew Kenefick Abt. May 1845. I have found Patrick (my 2 great uncle) and John (my 2nd great GF) information. In fact, I met several decendents of Pat at the Kenvention held in Alexandria, Virginia in October 2005. I need to see if any Ireland relatives can fill in any blanks for Honora, Thomas and Andrew. As it appears, they did not leave Ireland. If they did leave they did not keep in contact and I do not know where they went. Michael Patrick Kenefick Jr. in Ohio

Thank you, Mary Dear Mary, There is indeed an obvious further step you should take. That is to expunge the stain on your family record by promptly paying the outstanding legal debt plus interest. About time too, I should add. Yours, etc. Sir Crispin Gaylord, Bt

    3. Mary, The tithe defaulters only list those people who didn't pay the tithes. There is also a Tithe listing all the head of households taken approx 1824 which also shows how much land they had. Its on the same lines as Griffiths Valuation except one of them is in Irish acres and the other in English acres. If I remember rightly part of Shanrahan is in the Waterford listing.
