These are my brick walls. Joseph THOMAS was born about 1835 in Ohio. Elmira BROWN was born June 22, 1834 in Illinois. They were married about 1851, probably in Illinois. I have found them in the census in Kinderhook, Pike County, and I know they were in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. In 1865 they left for California, Joseph dying on the trail. Elmira remarried in California to a William Prothero. Joseph and Elmira had four children, Mary Louisa 1856, Melvina 1860, Josephine Eveline 1862, and Catherine Jane born on the trail to California. I can't find anything on their parents, except Elmira's father was born in Tennessee and her mother was born in Kentucky, according to the 1880 census.
