not sure if this is him: Commercial Appeal, The (Memphis, TN) - September 20, 1996 Deceased Name: MARTIN - Dr. James P. Wright MARTIN - Dr. James P. Wright, 73, retired optometrist, died of cancer Wednesday at Methodist Hospital in Memphis. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Martin Church of Christ, where he was a former elder, with burial in East Side Cemetery. Murphy Funeral Home has charge. He had attended the University of Tennessee at Martin Junior College. He graduated in 1950 from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. He then practiced in Martin until he retired in 1988. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a former director of City State Bank. He was a past president of the Martin Lions Club and Rotary Club. He also had been chairman of Relay for Life sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Mr. Wright, the husband of Effie Bardley Wright, also leaves two sons, Dr. Don Wright of Martin and Alan Wright of Nashville; five sisters, Bobbie Lawrence of Cape Coral, Fla., Dorothy Ellis of Martin, Margie Lane of Jackson, Betty May of Memphis and Jane Scates of Lexington, Ky.; a brother, Clifford Wright of Union City, and five grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Weakley County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
