Author: chatterchit Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.researchresources.lookups.lookups/3241.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I took another look at the NY Passengers database -- ancestry.com clearly "mis-transcribed" the info. It reads SWITZERLAND and someone changed that to SWEDISH! The NY Passenger info is actually from Ellis Island. You can see the original manifest at www.ellisisland.org AND you can see TWO pages, whereas ancestry.com only has ONE. Take a look, it's free. I don't know whether it will tell you anything new, but it's always fun to see original records, I think! The Jean P. Arnold you mentioned can't be the one you're searching -- he was 34 at the time and that would give him a birthdate c. 1869. None of the Jean Arnolds immigrating into the UK have a birthdate close to 1877. Whoops! I just took a look at the original image, not the results list. There is NO "Jean P. Arnold." The name looks like "Jessie P. Arnold" to me AND it's a woman (listed as wife.) Yet another mis-transciption on the part of Ancestry! :( Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Jerusha Denend/Dinand/Denand/Denning/Demming B: abt 1820 IN M: 13 March 1839 District 42 Huntington Co IN Peter Pfautz/Fouts/Foutz Okay here is the interesting part: Was said that her daughters, one of which is my GGGrandmother were of Cherokee Descent which would be on moms' side as Peters' Family were of German descent coming from the Bavaria area. I have hunted high and low for my Jerusha but not finding anything as prior to 1850 the children were only listed by ages in the appropriate columns on census pages. The marriage record tells; Jerusha Denend according to a marriage record 10 Oct 1864 Otoe Co NE Jerusha was married to a Wm Jones although the people in Lawrence Co MO are not my people as that Jerusia/Jarusia Jones was a BECK. The other curious thing is No divorce decree exists in Otoe Co NE for Jerusha & Peter. Can anyone help me with this most puzzling puzzle? Perhaps somoene could give me a clue as to what Cherokee tribes were in IN in the 1830's? Perhaps her name was changed from her given Tribal name. Anything at all out there? Thanks

I don't have a subscription for that (don''t need it because I already have all that info for my own family!) and would appreciate a bit more info. I have been in touch with a geneology society in Neuchatel who has also been helpful. Here is what I now know: John François Arnold, born 1877, emigrated from Fontainemelon, Neuchatel, SWITZERLAND (NOT SWEDEN)in 1900. Jeanne Arnold (Maillardet), born c1871, his wife, also from Fontainemelon, emigrated at the same time. Berth Maillardet (probably Jeanne's sister) also emigrated in 1900. On the UK imigration list, I also found a Jean P (F.?) Arnold arriving in Liverpool from New York but can't access the dates to this arrival either. It would fit in though, because in 1917, he was separated/divorced from Jeanne and had a child born in Sheffield, England(The John Arnold I am trying to prove was Swiss) with his second wife, Gabrielle Ardiet. Starting to sound like a soap opera, isn't it? Anyway, if you could have another look for me I would really apprciate it. I am sure that Swedish is wrong (it is a VERY common mistake!!!) Thanks again for your precious assistance, Carol Preview Name: Jean Arnold Estimated Birth Year: abt 1877 Port of Arrival: New York, New York Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Our postman here in Switzerland has been researching Swiss victims in Nazi concentration camps for the past 30 years. He asked us to help confirm the background of a certain John Arnold, recorded as born in Sheffield but of Swiss nationality, who died in Neungamme in 1945. We have found this John and his parents and have their marriage certificate (London 1919). But there is no nationality on it. The father is Jean François Arnold, born 1877, the mother Gabrielle Ardiet, born 1887. Now I have found a Jean Arnold on the Swiss Overseas Emigration 1910-1953 file on Ancestry. But I don't need an international subscribtion for my own family tree and don't want to invest in one just for this. I would appreciate it if someone who has one could look this up and check out the rest of the information: Jean Arnold, Birth Year?, Place of origin, Neuchâtel, Switzerland, Departure date ?, Port of Departure? Images?. If this turned out to be our John Arnold's father, it would brin! g an positive end to Mr. Favre's 30-year search for proof of John's Swiss nationality. Thanks a million!
