Your best bet is to find his naturalization records. If you know his father's name it might be under it as children were automatically naturalized with their parents. Try the lookup pages at genforum for "Germany" Someone there can probably help with the German name.

I am trying to find info on Elizabeth B Major. I would like help in locating Elizbeth's birth and death records. This is what I have so far. She was born abt 1863. I have a copy of her marriage record listed both parents but it states she was born in the United States. It is possible she was visiting family in Michigan or somewhere else, but everyone else in her family was born in Ontario. Mostly in London Township. She married Thomas Howitt son of Thomas Howitt and Mary (Dunn) Howitt. In the 1881 census they were living in Ward 3 of London, Middlesex County, Ontario. Here is is also listed as being born in the USA. Their first child Percy C Howitt was born 8-21-1884 in London Ontario. They had a second child that died 1-17-1887 unknow name. It is possible Elizabeth also died or shorty after because she is no where to be found in 1891. I did find her listed on Cemetry records for Woodland in London, Ontario but I don't have access to the records. Her husband remarried in 1890. In the 1901 census Percy is living with his grandmother Matilda Major in London City Ontario. He is listed as Percy C H with the surname Major, this has had confused for years because I couldn't place him with any of Matilda's child. I did also find Percy in the Detroit Crossing records as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Tina Smith

His name is James Edward Ritter born in NY Jul 30 1904, parents name John Ishmael or Rooland R Ritter and Annie Elizabeth or Susie Still. Have been given 2 sets of names for his parents. He arrived in GA in @1926 via railroad on which he worked. Told stories of being Golden Gloves boxing champion. Have reason to believe this may not be his given name. If you have a family member that disappeared from NY area @ this time, could be him. I have photos. He talked to my grandmother shortly after their marriage of going to visit his family in Niagra Falls area, but never did. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated~~!

My hope is to connect him with other family and find out just when he arrived in Ohio. I have a feeling that other Canters preceded him by 10-20 years , putting them in S. Ohio around 1780. Probably as a result of the French and Indian War and the subsequent land grants. If you run into anything else, I welcome it. And if you are a Canter researcher, please join us at : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canterhistory/ Mike
