It is the only thing I could find about your couple. I could not find any marriage listing... sorry. But is if you contact MaryLisansky66, she may be able to help you. Best of luck. Memories of Sam and Sophie Galler Lisansky Added by MARYLISANSKY66 on 13 Nov 2007 As well as I can remember, your great grandfather Sam had pure white hair. He was quite tall and thin. Although he was a shopkeeper, he consistently voted for Eugene V. Debs, the Socialist candidate for president. (Why and how do I know that? I must have overheard an adult conversation once and it stuck in my memory- everyone else I knew voted Democratic). I remember going with my parents to visit the family when they sat shiva for him. I played with one of the other young relatives on the sidewalk ( I must have been about 6 years old). I remember your great-grandmother, my Aunt Sophie, much better. She was a very sweet lady, much less "fancy" than my grandmother, who considered herself quite elegant (that was a very subjective - and probably singular - evaluation). She liked to watch a certain soap opera (I don't remember which) and called it "my program". She was the quieter aunt, as I remember. I remember that she had very impressive Shabbos candlesticks (perhaps the same ones as my grandmother's - 2 tall silverplate candleabras that each held 3 lights), and she was very insistent that I not touch them on Shabbos. For a time, she lived in the apartment above my grandparents (my grandfather built and owned the apartments) and I would run up to visit her whenever we visited (a few times a week). I was very fond of her. As you know, she lost a son in WWII, I think in the invasion of Normandy Beach. While going through my father's house, I found a number of letters that he wrote to my mother from the Army. A! pparently, they were quite friendly. When the grocery store was open, your great grandparents lived in the back of the store in an apartment. I remember that the living-room had linoleum on the floor. She was always eager to give me a dixie cup (and if you don't know what that is, you're a lot younger than me - chocolate and vanilla ice cream in a paper cup with a wooden spoon - yes, like Hagen Dazs!) and my father would insist (usually unsuccessfully) on paying the nickle that it cost. There was a walk-in freezer in the back, near the door to the apartment, and she would send me in to choose. I'm afraid that I have no more detailed memories Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I could find absolutely nothing for Fannie or Sophie because they probably married and have different last name, and of course I don't have a clue as to what those might be. I will double check Steve Morse for the marriages Index - again. I know Celia's will not be found in Kings County because she died in Eastford, CT. I have requested all possible records from the town clerk in Eastford, CT months ago and even talked to her on the phone, months ago - and still no records or further communication from there. I will have to really bug them I guess! That seems to be my one and only possible link to any information that is concrete. I would still like to check a census for Isdore Altschuler since Uncle Bob seems to remember that there COULD HAVE. MIGHT HAVE been an Isadore somewhere in the family. Cousing maybe? That was me just clutching at straws again. Other than that - there are several people helping me and we are all coming up in the dark - nothing really concrete until we can figure out the hometown and we need the paper on this one for sure. Thanks for your suggestions and you help. It certainly is appreciated.
