It was not clear to me who the people you regard as "totally bonkers" are. As I think has been discussed on this list, there do indeed seem to be some problems in assigning detailed ancestry composition with a high degree of accuracy, but I would disagree with the Squawker article that the testing companies are deliberately and falsely assigning a small amount of African ancestry to Europeans just to annoy the racists among them. In this regard 23andMe at one time assigned to me 0.1-0.2% African ancestry, which they later apparently changed their mind about, not due to any pressure from me.
