That worked for files downloaded from AncestryDNA during a certain time frame, but this appears to be a new problem where the file size has changed. Yes, while his timings might have been out, Dirk from Ancestry did confirm to me that the files are smaller. They also already have V2.0 in the header, so that isn’t the problem, although of course I appreciate the attempt to help! I am of course a little irritated but quite willing to accept that firms offering a free upload service or one at minimal cost to unlock all facilities may not be able to keep up with all the changes. However it should be flagged up more clearly that some raw data files are not compatible so that folks like me do not spend inordinate amounts of time trying to upload a file which, for the foreseeable future, is not in a format accepted by the firm.
