    3. I just want to put in writing, for the record, that I am greatly disappointed in National Geographic and Spencer Wells.  When Helix took over as the Genographic lab awhile back, they offered the test at a discount...but that was just a loss-leader deal because it was Helix/Insitome's plan all along to store the DNA acquired and then make big money off of the "extra" tests for specific traits etc. that they would offer over time...which is exactly what they are doing.  Meanwhile, since Helix took over, you can no longer transfer results (or even see them in a meaningful form) to FTDNA etc., so the test no longer is a boon for researchers such as myself.  The genetic details (as opposed to sweeping categories of ethnic percentages and vague haplogroup assignments) of people who test GENO 2.0 now are "lost" to me, so to speak....this includes my own relatives as well as the scores of people in my various projects.  I no longer recommend GENO 2.0 to anyone for this reason. This does not take away from the substantial contribution to the greater good that National Genographic testing and Spencer Wells have done in the past (Journey of Man as recommended below is excellent indeed)....I just feel they "sold out" and sacrificed future scientific advancement and public access for private profit. Ok, rant over.
