    3. Hello Listers Tonight I received an unsolicited phone call to my mobile phone number supposedly from My Heritage offering me a super deal. The phone number displayed has called me numerous times in the past and it has always hung up before I could answer. Whoever was on the line knew I had a My Heritage account and that I had uploaded my DNA results there. I do not recall giving my mobile phone number to My Heritage! I do not appreciate unsolicited phone calls .has anyone else had these same phone calls. The person on the line was very persistent! I am not sure of the protocol of placing that phone number in this email ( so I didn't) and I do not want to contravene the rules of the discussions on this list but I am interested in knowing what is going on here and the opinions of you my fellow listers! Rhonda

    3. Rhonda Have you called My Heritage directly to determine if they actually called you or if it was a scam artist? If they called, you can asked to be placed on the do not call list. I’m sure they will comply. If the didn’t call, then informing them would be beneficial to everyone. Are you registered with the national do not call list? 3. Hi Richard Thanks for your comments. My mobile phone number is now registered on the Do Not Call Register which will not come into effect for 30 days. It will be interesting to see if My Heritage is as good as their word and not call me again within that period as they have said they would not contact me by phone again. 3. Rhonda I'm sure My Heritage will follow through. I often work with them as part of DNAAdoption and they have always been good with their word to me. I would like to point out that you probably gave them permission to call you when you registered with them. There is a small box you had to mark saying don't contact me that probably got overlooked in the registration process. In that case, the do-not-call registry does not apply because you gave permission and technically it still does not apply. This applies to any company you do business with and do not explicitly opt-out of being contacted. However, the ethical companies, My Heritage being one of them, will not contact you after you tell them to stop. Just want to help make sure you understand that companies can still call if you have given them permission to contact you in the past. By the way, ancestry does the same thing (has permission to call and calls a lot) so it isn't just My Heritage. 3. Hello Richard Thank you for your comments. Yes it is possible that I missed something in the registration process.! However having said that I am always very careful and pedantic about reading instructions and making sure I know what I am signing up for. I usually opt out of receiving further contact always if it is by phone so it is unlikely that this is the case. Given that my registration for My Heritage was completed online and not by phone I would have thought email would be the appropriate way to offer special deals. Keep in mind that My Heritage did not call me once but dozens of times at all hours over a long period mostly hanging up as soon as I answered. I do not and will not deal with Ancestry as I do not like their aggressive marketing tactics so I won't be bothered by them! I hope!
