    3. that's the other way round Max. Transfers IN to MyHeritage will still be free for match lists but from 1 Dec there will be some sort of charge to see the extra bits. 3. Thank you, Lorna.  Yes, I was asking about uploads from My Heritage to Family Tree and I wasn't aware of the $19 unlock fee--I thought it applied only to Ancestry tests.   I don't think match lists are useful without a chromosome browser. Any thoughts about ordering from My Heritage rather than Family Tree?   It sounds as if My Heritage could become the best place to analyze DNA results; however, if I order from Family Tree, my new tests would be subject to the fees at My Heritage because they would be uploaded after November 30th.  At present, four of my five tests have already been uploaded, but I need the consent of one cousin before I can upload her test. Lindsey    -----Original Message----- From: LornaMoa <lornamoa@gmail.com> To: genealogy-dna <genealogy-dna@rootsweb.com>; Max Heffler <max@texsys.com> Cc: Lindsey Britton <lplantagenet@aol.com> Sent: Sun, Nov 4, 2018 5:26 pm Subject: Re: [DNA] Re: Fwd: My Heritage DNA Tests that's the other way round Max. 3. Lindsey, FTDNA used to be free for MyHeritage but that changed a wee while ago. As to where to order, my tuppence, when sales aren't in the equation: For females it's six of one and half a dozen of the other as we haven't yDNA. For males I still recommend staring at FTDNA in case they / you want yDNA. But either way I consider it best to be in both, and GEDmatch you never know where the match you need is going to test. Ancestry is a poor third for me but cannot be ignored, not that my lot seem to get many matches from there, whereas MyHeritage the cousins  keep pouring out of the woodwork. Other's mileage may well differ. FTDNA doesn't have any complications such as subscription options and just works, has contact details, and I love the phased match lists when you link your closer matches to your tree. MyHeritage is as Tim said, becoming a major player with wonderful tools for us DNA obsessives. To get the best out of MyHeritage I confess I upload my lots' files into RootsFinder (as well as my own private database system) to get a workable match list and the wonderful cluster diagrams RF offers. The MyH list is rather clunky I've not yet heard what the MyH charging system will be from 1 Dec but we will no doubt hear soon. 3. These three are females. I was attracted by the sale and waiver of shipping fee at My Heritage, and if I purchase tests from FTDNA, then I wouldn't be able to upload results to My Heritage before December 1st. . Subscriptions and incompatibility of test chips are the reasons I've avoided Ancestry despite Peter Calver's enthusiastic recommendation.  Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if in time My Heritage can boast of a database as large or almost as large as Ancestry's. Lindsey   -----Original Message----- From: LornaMoa <lornamoa@gmail.com> To: Lindsey Britton <lplantagenet@aol.com>; genealogy-dna <genealogy-dna@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sun, Nov 4, 2018 6:17 pm Subject: Re: [DNA] Re: Fwd: My Heritage DNA Tests Lindsey, FTDNA used to be free for MyHeritage but that changed a wee while ago. 3. Lindsay, MyHeritage uses Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) kits and FTDNA does the analysis. MyHeritage does their own interpretation of the raw results, so MyHeritage and FTDNA can give you different results. I suggest that you continue testing at FTDNA and transferring to MyHeritage. Of course, if the fee for transfer to MyHeritage, it may pay to go the other way. In any case, I recommend being in both databases. 3. In his presentation at the conference yesterday the CEO of MyHeritage, Gilad Japhet, said that some DNA features at MyHeritage will be paid only features after Dec. 1. I would encourage everyone who has done an autosomal DNA test to upload to MyHeritage's database prior to then. MyHeritage's database is growing fast and is approaching 2 million people at this point. They continue to bring forth features that autosomal genetic genealogists need. MyHeritage and some of the other companies are also having really good sales right now.
