In early 2001, I had what I thought was the insane wish that I could use DNA to find out whether Harvey Kelley of Morgan County, Tennessee was also Elisha Dorsey of Oconee County, Souther Carolina. On a whim, I googled something like DNA and genealogy. My first hit was Family Tree DNA. I was on the phone with Bennett almost immediately. When I hung up with visions of new ancestors dancing in my head, I looked through the rest of my hits. There was a post from a genealogy-dna@rootsweb.com list. I clicked and I was in! The genealogy-dna list gave my new life of genetic genealogy focus and direction for many years. My new friends there coached and advised and commiserated through the whole Kelley/Dorsey adventure and then the establishment and growth of the Dorsey DNA Project. Harvey Kelley and Elisha Dorsey WERE the same person. Thank you Ann for the list and for all of the advice, information, ideas, inspiration and friendship over the years. Where has the time gone? The sequences come from the 'Turin Shroud' and accompany the paper (abstract gvien below): Barcaccia,G., Galla,G., Achilli,A., Olivieri,A. and Torroni,A. 'Uncovering the sources of DNA found on the Turin Shroud' Sci Rep 5, 14484 (2015) The sequences belong to Haplogroups: H3, U5a2b1a and X2. see perhaps: http://www.ianlogan.co.uk/sequences_by_group/h3_genbank_sequences.htm http://www.ianlogan.co.uk/sequences_by_group/u5a2b_genbank_sequences.htm http://www.ianlogan.co.uk/sequences_by_group/x2_genbank_sequences.htm and I have also added them to my 'Checker' program to ensure accuracy of transcription. It would be nice to be able to say the sequences tell us new things; but apart from the sequences being 'novel' - i.e. with no modern matches there is nothing to suggest a place of origin of the shroud. Ian --------------- Abstract The Turin Shroud is traditionally considered to be the burial cloth in which the body of Jesus Christ was wrapped after his death approximately 2000 years ago. Here, we report the main findings from the analysis of genomic DNA extracted from dust particles vacuumed from parts of the body image and the lateral edge used for radiocarbon dating. Several plant taxa native to the Mediterranean area were identified as well as species with a primary center of origin in Asia, the Middle East or the Americas but introduced in a historical interval later than the Medieval period. Regarding human mitogenome lineages, our analyses detected sequences from multiple subjects of different ethnic origins, which clustered into a number of Western Eurasian haplogroups, including some known to be typical of Western Europe, the Near East, the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian sub-continent. Such diversity does not exclude a Medieval origin in Europe but it would be also compatible with the historic path followed by the Turin Shroud during its presumed journey from the Near East. Furthermore, the results raise the possibility of an Indian manufacture of the linen cloth. ------------------- KP877126(Italy) Barcaccia Haplogroup H3 19-OCT-2015 A263G 309.1C 315.1C A750G A1438G A4769G T6776C A8860G A9545G C11863T T12738C A15326G T16519C KP877127(Italy) Barcaccia Haplogroup U5a2b1a 19-OCT-2015 A73G A263G 309.1C 315.1C A750G G930A 960.1C A1438G A2706G T3197C A4769G C7028T A8860G G9477A G9548A A11467G G11719A A12308G G12372A C12399T T12441C T13617C C14766T A14793G A15326G C16192T C16256T C16266T C16270T G16526A KP877128(Italy) Barcaccia Haplogroup X2 19-OCT-2015 C64T A73G A153G T159C T195C G225A T226C 309.1C 315.1C A750G A1438G G1719A A2706G G4659A A4769G T6221C C6371T C7028T A8860G T9903C T11204C C11434T G11719A C12705T A13966G T14470C C14766T T15139C A15326G C15793T T16092C A16183- T16189C 16193.1C 16193.2C C16223T C16266T C16278T T16519C ------------------------------ Message: 8 Date: Wed, 21 Oct 2015 15:37:32 -0400 From: Karla Huebner <calypsospots@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [DNA] Happy Quincea?era GENEALOGY-DNA To: Ann Turner <dnacousins@gmail.com>, "genealogy-dna@rootsweb.com" <genealogy-dna@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <CA+FJH4OQB+mOb8mu4-jVLTfXNtWGy4UfaeFg1A6KEf9w9w_CKw@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Congratulations!
