I added the information to my profile, so if some of these folks see it, they might consider making their account visible to us. I do not know if it will help, but the three accounts I administer now have a notice about them being deleted. "I don't see why should they care?" Over the years 23andme has operated with various different privacy and consent agreements with their customers. In order to keep using Dna relatives they are probably trying to get people to accept a new privacy / consent agreement. There is possibly from 10% to 25% of the database that are deceased or incapacitated, it could be a way to remove the anonymous ones from your Dna relatives list. Does anyone know the history and origin of the so-called alternate sequences at NCBI's GenBank? Over a 2551-nt region on chromosome 1 from location 14104950 thru 14107500, encompassing most of the coding region of gene PRDM2, I see that the GR37 and GR38 sequences differ from the "Homo sapiens chromosome 1, alternate assembly CHM1_1.1" by 9 point mutations and 2 triplet insertions (the latter being in the alternate assembly). >From my whole-genome sequence reads, it appears that 1 of my two chromosome 1's matches the alternate sequence exactly over the above region, while my other chromosome 1 matches the GR37 or GR38 sequence except for 2 point mutations and 1 triplet insertion. I have heard that the GR37 and GR 38 sequences are some sort of composite sequence derived from 13 individuals from Buffalo, NY, but I have no idea what the origin of the alternate sequence is. In any event, it seems that in the region mentioned above one of my chromosomes (not sure whether it is maternal or paternal) is identical to the alternate sequence and the other is much more similar to the GR37 or GR38 sequence. Would appreciate any feedback, Obed

Gretta We are downloading the full countries of ancestry CSV file, sorting the file and then using copy and paste for the rows of data we are interested in. Countries of ancestry currently has a 1000 name limit, the extra 105 rows are when a person shares multiple segments with you. (Each different anonymous person has a number attached and counts as a name) RPaine -----Original Message----- From: gretta gribble via Sent: Sunday, November 1, 2015 10:38 AM To: Karla Huebner ; genealogy-dna@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [DNA] Questions about the new 23andMe; Suggestion need hoping someone can help - i am finding the conversation confusing. when i reach countries of ancestry, the colored graph does not show many of my matches. i do not find a place to download individual matches, just an option to download a csv file of all of my matches. this downloads on my computer to a file with 1105 matches. many are anonymous, but others map to individuals who have not responded, and i can determine the cm's on individual chromosomes, though not sure about the location ( possibly " SegmentStartInMegaBasePairs" and ". SegmentEndInMegaBasePairs" ????? what are people doing when they are downloading individual matches separately, and how are they doing it? do you obtain additional information? thank you for any clarification. I suspect that 23andme is trying to separate people who seldom or never sign-in and people who actively use the site. I think they want to move active customers to having their names shown. There's a banner across (at least some of the accounts) the announcement that Anonymous and nicknamed accounts will be deleted from DNA Relatives list as of 11/11. I wrote on my wife's account: Why delete the Invites? Just add an addendum to the Invites "In order to accept this Invite, you will need to make your profile visible to All [whatever the actual name is]. Hmm what are they doing for the people who are Anonymous who have accepted some Invites but not others. I cannot imagine any rationale which would explain deleting Anonymous matches from some but not all DNA Relatives (and I've read through the explanation.) ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to GENEALOGY-DNA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Excellent question... there is a 23andMe staffer who is answering questions like this on the site, so perhaps we could get an answer from the source. Ann A good idea - not enough time to do refresh of them... Brooks, I asked exactly this question of Christine M in the "DNA Relatives changes for the new 23andMe experience" thread, but no reply. I wonder if they even thought through all the different scenarios. I have a number of these "accept contact, decline sharing" matches, who are still anonymous to me. It still just says, Female or Male, instead of a name. Some do appear with name after accepting contact and declining sharing, some don't. Will we lose the anonymous matches who accepted contact only? Will we see the shared segments of the others who accepted contact and do have a name, but declined sharing? I guess we'll have to wait to find out after the transition. In the existing system, one of my frustrations has been this scenario: * I extend a sharing invitation to an anonymous cousin * they accept the introduction, but decline sharing So, they are not anonymous to me. What will happen to these intro-only connections in the new system??
