List A revised YSEQ mtDNA sequence is on GenBank. This sequence was revised a few weeks ago - but I missed it at the time. The sequence belongs to Haplogroup T2b and has the distinctive motif 'T2b-A9336G. KY776424(Czech) YSEQ-5828 Haplogroup T2b 14-AUG-2017 A73G A263G 309.1C 315.1C C522- A523- G709A A750G G930A A1438G G1888A A2706G T4216C A4769G A4917G G5147A C7028T G7521A G8697A A8860G T9047C A9336G T10463C A11251G G11719A A11812G G13368A A14233G C14766T G14905A A15326G C15452A A15607G G15928A T16126C C16294T T16304C T16519C And I believe there is just one other sequence on GenBank matching this new sequence reasonably closely. HQ399469 FTDNA T2b 26-OCT-2010 A73G A263G 309.1C 315.1C G709A A750G G930A A1438G G1888A A2706G T4216C A4769G A4917G G5147A G6026A C7028T G8697A A8860G A9336G T10463C A11251G G11719A A11812G G13368A A14233G C14766T G14905A A15326G C15452A A15607G G15928A T16126C C16294T C16296T T16304C T16519C So maybe they will get a new label in the forthcoming revision of the 'phylotree'. As usual I have added the sequence to my 'Checker' program to ensure accuracy of transcription. Ian www.ianlogan.co.uk
List 14 more mtDNA sequences from FTDNA customers have appeared on the GenBank database - and many of them are quite unusual. They do have plans to sell the sequence data to you, but since their business model is "sequence once, query often" they are counting on the sale of apps to make up for the losses incurred with sequencing. I suspect the price point will be quite high. I just want to put in writing, for the record, that I am greatly disappointed in National Geographic and Spencer Wells. When Helix took over as the Genographic lab awhile back, they offered the test at a discount...but that was just a loss-leader deal because it was Helix/Insitome's plan all along to store the DNA acquired and then make big money off of the "extra" tests for specific traits etc. that they would offer over time...which is exactly what they are doing. Meanwhile, since Helix took over, you can no longer transfer results (or even see them in a meaningful form) to FTDNA etc., so the test no longer is a boon for researchers such as myself. The genetic details (as opposed to sweeping categories of ethnic percentages and vague haplogroup assignments) of people who test GENO 2.0 now are "lost" to me, so to speak....this includes my own relatives as well as the scores of people in my various projects. I no longer recommend GENO 2.0 to anyone for this reason. This does not take away from the substantial contribution to the greater good that National Genographic testing and Spencer Wells have done in the past (Journey of Man as recommended below is excellent indeed)....I just feel they "sold out" and sacrificed future scientific advancement and public access for private profit. Ok, rant over. Bill, I don't expect to find related ancestors in a hurry but I did find it interesting. They don't offer matching - but I believe they have promised it. I'm sure their own website shows you what you'll get but FWIW here's my blogpost about my results, http://lornahen.blogspot.co.nz/2017/08/livingdna-results-are-in.html which includes a link to be able to see them for yourself, and at the bottom of the post are several other links about them and ethinicity /admixture results in general from eg Debbie Kennett, Roberta Estes and Judy Russell - far more illustrious than I :) Lorna Henderson http://LornaHen.com On 19/09/17 15:59, Bill Webster wrote: > Is this just another testing company? > Does it have something special or a point of difference? > It interests me in being not USA based. > Is it more about deep ancestry or helpful in any new ways to help find > related ancestors? > Bill Webster > NSW Australia > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Is this just another testing company? Does it have something special or a point of difference? It interests me in being not USA based. Is it more about deep ancestry or helpful in any new ways to help find related ancestors? Bill Webster NSW Australia

Hi Under the new ancestryDNA system you have to create a new free account for each person's kit and then transfer the management. to yourself. So in each account you will be able to add a profile image. Shame you can't seem to do it under the old system. Mike in a sunny Droitwich UK

One of our elders mentioned somewhere that "having pictures on your DNA kits' profiles encourages your DNA cousins to be more responsive when they receive a note from you." Make sense. But I can't figure out how to add profile pictures to my AncestryDNA kits. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can't click on my kit's (empty) picture next to their name on their kit's "home page" (e.g. https://www.ancestry.com/dna/insights/[kit-ID <https://www.ancestry.com/dna/insights/%5bkit-ID> ]) because although it's a kit in my account, it's not "my" kit. I've already assigned profile pictures to these folks' entry in my tree (to which their kits are linked), but those "tree profile pix" don't seem to be "upstream-transitive" to the kits' AncestryDNA profiles. Any ideas, oh gurus? Best, Eric

Eric, I see your problem. I also administer several kits for family members also at AncestryDNA, and when I go into settings for their test, no where on the page is a setting to add a profile picture. I'm wondering if it's because their test is administered. When I look at my matches, none of the ones who have an administrator have a profile pic. Sorry I couldn't help- LeeAnn On Mon, Sep 18, 2017 at 7:01 PM, Eric S Johnson <[email protected]> wrote: > One of our elders mentioned somewhere that "having pictures on your DNA > kits' profiles encourages your DNA cousins to be more responsive when they > receive a note from you."
