    3. Hi Rhonda— X chromosome inheritance is indeed …eccentric. There are only some ancestors from whom you receive X segments; others make no contribution at all. I recommend: https://thegeneticgenealogist.com/2008/12/21/unlocking-the-genealogical-secrets-of-the-x-chromosome/ And you really *must* fill out the charts. 3. Hello again Lorna Thank you...I think I understand. This man's mother is on my paternal line. She is my father's first cousin twice over so the X Chr I share with this man should have come from their grandmothers???? Am I on the right track...I find the inheritance patterns of the X Chromosomes totally confusing! Thank you for your patience! 3. Hello Ann, Right. Good to hear that they are working on it. Vendor conversion for 23andMe at GEDMatch is a really big problem. I get about twice the number of SNPs to compare if I lower the threshhold on the 'One to One' utility to 250 SNPs. For 23andMe compared to Ancestry: "295262 SNPs used for this comparison." For 23andMe compared to FTDNA: "301555 SNPs used for this comparison." (Abut half what it should be.) I use these settings: Minimum threshold size to be included in total = 250 SNPs Mismatch-bunching Limit = 100 SNPs Minimum segment cM to be included in total = 1.0 cM I have not really tried any lower values than that, as I was just happy to see these results (and started working with them). I don't have any LivingDNA kits to compare within the project (fortunately).  - Dave Hamm RE: On 10/20/2018 7:58 PM, genealogy-dna-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2018 16:57:59 -0700 > From: Ann Turner <dnacousins@gmail.com> > Subject: [DNA] Re: DNA match with many small segments > To: DNA Genealogy Mailing List <genealogy-dna@rootsweb.com> > Message-ID: > <CAA-Ub_CeKH0FA6_=Tbg3M05y9_U49jv7bFAn7F30WTYg7XVu7w@mail.gmail.com> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" > > I've been working quite a bit with Genesis. 3. If I match somebody on the X Chromosome but not on any other Chromosome what does that tell me. I am a man so I have one X Chromosome. If I match with a woman who has two X Chromosomes does that mean that My X matches with one of her two Xs. If I have two women who match me on the X chromosome does that mean that they are related to each other, I have a bunch of these. 3. I've been working quite a bit with Genesis. They are tackling a very difficult problem -- how to compare people who have tested on different platforms. For some platforms, e.g. LivingDNA or 23andMe v5, only 160,000 SNPs or so can be compared with FTDNA. I have created a merged file with my results from Ancestry v1 and v2 and 23andMe v4 and v5. If I look at my match list for just the v5 kit, many do not show up in my merged kit. Logically they should, since all the SNPs are in the merged kit, but the other platforms have exposed contradictions to the match. 1. [DNA] X Matches
    2. Rhonda Flowers
    3. Hello to the list As I have been able to link close DNA matches to my own tree on FTDNA it has activated phasing. I have 46 paternal and 488 maternal phased matches. Only two of my paternal phased matches have an X match with me. One is a male and one is a female. The male is a double second cousin and the female is unidentified . I cannot find where she fits into my family tree. FTDNA suggests she is a 1st-3rd cousin. Can anyone explain what are the implications of the two X matches on my paternal line? All other X matches in my results appear to be to females. Regards Rhonda

    1. [DNA] Test differences?
    2. Laura Stewart
    3. I’ve tested, my DNA, at Ancestry, 23 & Me, and FT DNA. I understand why results change in the test over time. But, why is it that I have wildly differing results between ea of the 3 tests? Who is more accurate? I mean, FT DNA says I’m 5% Turkish but I’ve been doing my genealogy for 28 yrs now and I can’t remotely come close to even hazarding a guess. I started DNA testing about 8ish years ago. Ancestry says I’m I’m 22% Scottish and Irish which I’m guessing is roughly accurate. But then when I click on the regions it says I have no connections in Ireland or Scotland. Well, 1, they’re the ones who said I did. And 2, if it’s based off reading my tree I’d guess that ~30% of my tree is tagged with a Scotland or Ireland location. And of course it has no indication of any Turkish DNA at all. And 23 & Me has .3% in the Turkey region which is a far cry from 5%. 23 & Me has me with 19.4% German, which is likely right based on what I know of my family. But Ancestry and FT DNA don’t show any German at all. And the 3 tests swing somewhere (totaled together) b/w 40% and 92% for England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland. What’s with such a wide swing? Thanks! 3. Well, be careful there Ann. I have not really used Genesis because I have few matches of interest there. However, on the 'One to One' comparison, I get low SNP counts like that on 4th & 5th cousins(from 4 to 7 cMs), with much less than the 300,000 SNPs total. For 7 cMs, I would expect it to be about 5th cousin, usually depending upon the chromosome. (When I lower the threshhold to 1 cM, my sums can run about 12,000 SNPs total.) I tend to think GEDmatch is doing something strange with the data in an effort to avoid the Excess IBD regions.  - Dave Hamm RE: On 10/20/2018 12:16 AM, Ann Turner wrote: > Sorry, I wasn't clear on where you would see the pink/red. 3. Sorry, I wasn't clear on where you would see the pink/red. It's when you run the one-to-many tool. However, I can tell from the low SNP counts of the individual segments that these are likely to be false positives. The total SNP count at the bottom of the one-to-one page is probably under 300,000. 3. What does the SNP overlap column show? If it's color coded pink/red, these could be false positives.
