Have attempted to obtain information on Orphanages that existed in the mid- eighteen hundreds with little success. Am trying to obtain information pertaining to my Grandmother who was born on July 29, 1860 in N.Y. {Believe N.Y. City] of Irish Immigrants who, having left Ireland during the potato famine, died shortly after their arrival. She was placed in a Catholic Orphanage and was adopted Mr. & Mrs . Hill who shortly thereafter moved to Michigan, pursued by various agencies because Rev. Hill was a Methodist Minister. Her name was Grace and some family members thought her birth parentage surname to be Halloran Would appreciate any input as to how to proceed to obtain relative information regarding her ancestory. thanks.
