    2. Hi Cynthia- I can't answer your question specifically regarding age, but my 4th great grandfather was a Canadian, born in 1793 who was living in Illinois. He enlisted at the age of 68. So, I don't think your ancestor was too old 8-) I always assumed money had something to do with it-either some type of bonus for signing up or the promise of some in the future? I haven't done much research on him, but if I find out the reason he enlisted at that late age, I'll let you know.
