I'm searching for the origins and relatives of my New Jersey ancestors, brothers John and Samuel THROP or THROPP, who arrived in New Jersey prior to 1700. I'm new to Connecticut research and have limited access to books on New England. Here are some of my leads: Both John and Samuel apparently fought in King Philip's War, but the records are very sketchy and I haven't found a reference to the town or county where they came from. They seem to be listed under various spellings. Abigail THROP born 15 May 1676 at New Haven, Connecticut and died May 1708 in Hartford County, Conn. Samuel THORPE, freeman in New Haven, Conn. 1670 The John Throp who located in Cape May, New Jersey for a few years (about 1688) was probably connected with the whaling industry.
