Jim, I am interested in the SPERRY surname. I may be a descendant of a Wheeler Oviatt who married a Mehitable SPERRY. I am attempting to confirm my grt. grt. grandfather, Wheeler Oviatt, as their first son b. ca 1797 in New Haven or Milford, CT. They had another son named Richard Sperry Oviatt as well. The only 1797 record listed in Milford, CT court records for the family is the death of a son and a daughter. I feel this is most likely an error. I have never located any record which lists a Wheeler born to Mehitable Sperry and her husband, Wheeler Oviatt within church records, wills, etc. I am wondering if you might have seen any reference to a Wheeler Oviatt b. to Mehitable Sperry Oviatt or m. to a Rhoda Cornish (dau of Daniel Cornish) in the 1820's within any of the Sperry lineage documents. I live in MI and have very limited access to documents from early CT. The family is mentioned without their son, Wheeler, in EARLY FAMILIES OF NEW HAVEN, CT by Jacobus.
